Just came across this video. The mushroom creation starts at 5:16. This is brilliant! Never would have thought of it on my own... The entire video is on scatter terrain, for caves, but the mushroom creation is golden, IMO. Thought I would share. Cheers!

Another video of the same crafter's channel. This one is impressive, like the last. It is too much work, for me, for the amount of use I would get from it, however, there is one part I really like: his arrows in the wooden hoarding! They are explained at 12:25. He uses a straightened paper clip, attaching cut bits of paper, as fletching.
In all honesty, I consider these too large to be "arrows", however, they make superb ballista bolts! I need to play around with these. My castle walls sections, and towers, are all 2.75D, cardboard and label-printed textures (I need to write up how I build them...). If I add ballista bolts sticking out of them, they would easily be ripped out. But... Oy!!! They would look sooo good in a siege battle!
I have built multiple castle wall sections, as well as both square, and round, towers, along with a couple of rectangular gate houses. I built mine for my fantasy mass battles games, primarily. I occasionally make use of them in my RPG sessions, but nowhere near enough to justify building even the versions I make. Using individual bricks looks superb, but the work versus the usage ratio, is too small, for me.
I make mine by printing off FDG (and others) textures on full sheet labels. I apply the printed label paper textures (no painting required!) to 3mm thick cardboard, assembling them using Hot Glue (these are card stock models, but I build them out of much sterner stuff!). Then I blacken the edges, to eliminate the white paper edges, filling in any seams, as necessary, using Hot Glue (I typically blacken the Hot Glue, with permanent markers, or black paint). It works well, for me. I get a lot of complements from my players in my mass battles games.
I also base most of my castle pieces, rather than weighting them, as this YouTuber does. The bases add weight, and they protect the bottoms of the pieces from wear during use. They also prevent them from tipping over easily. Based on 25+ years of tabletop war gaming experiences, I build my stuff more durably, than most foam creations, such as what is shown in these videos. Stuff gets damaged in handling, no matter how careful you might be -- accidents happen. I like my stuff built sturdily, so they can withstand some rough handling. I love this guy's work, and his results are outstanding! I choose different compromises than him, but there is much to learn from his videos, which is why I am sharing them here. Cheers!

I found Scatter Craft's channel about 3 weeks ago and have been watching his videos! He does make some really great crafts! I thought his mushrooms were really great looking!

The mushrooms are brilliant, pure gold. Can't believe we haven't thought of this method already, with the umpteen diferent variants we've been sharing over the years around here!

Thx again sgtslag for sharing those hotglue mushrooms! They became the first project of my new craft room!

Another video, not made by me... All in 1 D&D Portals, Murals, Archways and Arch Walls, from the RP Archive, on YouTube. To me, this is a scene from Q1: Queen of the Demonweb Pits module. Lolth had a room full of portals which would take the PC's to many foreign planets/Alternate Prime Material Planes. As a young DM, I found this concept breathtaking, and terrifying! I saw the possibilities in the short write-up's for each portal, but I also saw how much work each world would be to develop into a playable adventure/storyline! Watching this video was really a blast from the past. I DM'ed Q1 in roughly 1982... Wow! That experience, alone, was worth the price of admission (free!). LOL! I hope this inspires, and perhaps gives some of you your very own flashbacks. Enjoy! Cheers!

Impressive - but rather scary to have all those different portals lined up in a row - so easy to get shoved into the wrong one!

That was the reaction of my players, back in 1982! They feared it would be a one-way trip, with no means of returning home... Ever.
Back then, I was a relative noob DM: I began DM'ing six months after being introduced to the game, in 1980. Today, I have 40 years of experience. I can handle portals, such as these, and what occurred in Q1, but not back then.
This is a classic example of why I almost never looked into 2e rules: by 1989, when 2e rules were first published, I had been playing 1e AD&D for nine years... I had barely begun to scratch the surface of what was possible within the game! Now, 31 years later, I am still playing 2e rules, and I still have only just scratched the surface -- Oh! But what a scratch it has been! Sorry, waxing nostalgic. Still, after 40 years, I cannot believe how much fun, and intoxicating, playing D&D can be. I joyfully introduced my three sons to it, at age 13. Happy to say two of the three, are addicted, but not as severely as I am -- yet. Cheers!

Who wants to tell him about the bloated complexity of Pathfinder.. then Pathfinder 2?
You'll be busy for 50 years at least!

Need some mushrooms for the modified Lost Mines of Phandelver I'm running for my kids. Remembered seeing this here awhile back. Appreciate the recommendation sgtslag, another great little channel to add to the rotation. I'll try to remember to post the finished products when I'm done. 😁

Here's what I've got so far. A mix of those I'd already made & the ones I made using this method.

Nice! Did you make the bases with Hot Glue puddles? Just curious. Cheers! I did! Superheated hot glue atop state lottery scratcher chips, lol. Definitely something I'll do more for basing in the future. I also just added some spots of polyurethane glue misted with water. The reaction causes it to bubble up into interesting textures. Should have em painted up before tomorrow. 😁😁

Hmmm. Caspan, for some reason your images aren't showing up on my screen - just the little x boxes. Obviously they worked for sgtslag, though.

Here's a progress pic on another host. Let me know if it's working & I'm open to color suggestions for the shrooms.

That image I can see. I am partial to purple, blue, and white, especially transparentish white, for underground mushrooms.
