I'm wondering I'm trying to make a board have a surface that can have metallic or magnetic surface so I can play other objects to adhere to it slightly. My only current solution is build surface with very thin sheet metal underneath. Any other ideas?

There is such a magnetic spray paint. From what I've read on other gaming forums (theminiaturespage.com), it does not work very well: the amount of iron in the paint, is minimal, magnets barely have any attraction to it. Still, several coats might make it stronger. Do an Internet search, and see what happens (I believe Krylon makes it). Cheers!

You could try the self-adhesive plastic magnetic sheets and stick them onto paper printed or painted with whatever ground image you prefer. Since price and shipping vary with where you live, a cheaper way to use it would be to cut rectangular holes in cereal box cardboard, glue it onto heavier cardboard, and then glue matching rectangles of the magnetic sheet into the holes to make a board that has a partly magnetic surface. If the magnetic attraction isn't strong enough to work through the base cardboard, [which would be best to use for the top of the board, since it is smooth] you could glue paper over the side with the patchwork of magnetic rectangles. I am sure the magnetic attraction would work through something as thin as printer paper. You didn't mention where you live, but these magnetic plastic sheets are readily available in crafts stores in the USA. If you are in Europe, there are sites you can order it from such as: www.supermagnete.de/eng/magnetic-sheetI don't know how well these sheets retain their magnetic properties long-term. Anyone else want to weigh in here?

Behr brand paints makes a 'magnetic' paint, which is actually metal filings mixed in the paint. I've heard it works better than the spray version, but have not tried it myself. I do have a can of it I bought a while back with the intention of using it, but have yet had the extra money to get the wood that I was going to paint it on.
