Has anyone done any re-paints or kitbashing to these dragons? If so, would love to see pictures for inspiration.
I'm considering turning the following model into a black dragon using milliput to make the iconic horns (inserting them into the upper eye sockets) then giving it a repaint. My only concern is my low skill level.

margaret posted my two paint conversions (thank you, margaret!). The green Swamp Dragon painted as a D&D Copper Dragon, is a fantastic, easy example. The Gold Dragon was painted with a higher quality metallic gold paint. I then painted Minwax Polyshades Royal Walnut urethane stain over the gold paint, to make it appear as a Bronze/Brass Dragon. Both dragon toys were easy to do. The Copper turned out the best, but I enjoy both. Give it a go with the sculpted horns. If they don't turn out, you can always try again, or go a different route with the toy figure. Cheers!

I have not done any kitbashings or repaints of the Safari Dragons, however I do own a few (not the one in your link though), and I can vouchfor -some- of their paint-jobs. They're mostly very table-ready, just in case you were curious. I find these constantly in stock in big-box crafting stores, which is nice because of coupons. That is, at least in the midwest of the US. That being said, I thought I had seen a model that actually looked like a black dragon, but I must have been mistaken. I did find another of their models which you may like? I thought perhaps just cutting off the horns, rotating them 90 degrees, and then reattaching them with your favorite adhesive. Quite a different take on the wings, I admit, but... still kinda cool . Anyways, here that is, assuming it's available for wherever you are. www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q6ZEJCI/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B00Q6ZEJCI

Just re-visited the Safari, Ltd. web site, to see if they have any new Dragon toys... They have several, but this one, in particular, is attractive. It is virtually a model sculpted on the 1e AD&D Copper Dragon image, in the Monster Manual, from 1977! Re-paint it metallic Copper, and... Shazam! A great looking Copper Dragon, straight out of 1977! I already have a toy dragon, painted as a Copper, but this is very tempting... I could see getting this model, and painting it the same, metallic Copper, and using it as a male model, and the other as a female model. Like I have said, in an earlier post on these toy dragons, ignore the paint job, look at the sculpt of the toy. You can always re-paint them to suit your needs. I'm thinking I need a mated pair of Copper Dragons in my collection... Cheers!

Schleich has a host of new fantasy toys out, as well: link. I really like their Lava Dragon, which would make a fearsome D&D Red Dragon. It is huge, as well: 13.35 x 10.24 x 12.28 inch (W x D x H)! They have a bevy of toys which could be useful for D&D players and DM's... Their Golems are quite impressive, actually. I really like the Stone Monster. Would make for a massive Earth Elemental... Check out all of their Eldrador toys (link at the top of this post, first sentence). You may find something very useful. Cheers!

The new 2019 Safari Lava dragon is nice. With added arms and a black paint job it would be a unique black dragon. I love the animated pose also.

For me, having played AD&D since 1980, this is a golden age for dragon models and toys! We never had so much, back in the 80's. Like Achilles said, most of them are virtually table-ready with their factory paint jobs! There are so many affordable miniatures made by companies like Reaper, with their Bones line, and the D&D pre-painted figures, along with Paizo's Pathfinder pre-paints... I used to dream about these types of options, and having so many affordable miniatures available. Enjoy this timeframe. It really is wonderful, what is available, for such decent prices, IMO. Cheers!
