Lovely piece, but a lot of work! Are you planning an adventure for it? As of now, no. But in the future? Who knows. This was a gift for my Sister to use as inspiration for a novel she’s working on so it’s not currently located here at the house. There’s definitely some interesting strategical elements to the map. Also I feel like it could use even more of those elements to become a proper piece of terrain. Definitely some cool work here man nice job! Ive made a barrow mound as well, 3 levels but never played with it! Thanks for the comments though. Definitely makes all that work much sweeter!

Oh yea! Another good one this week. Also another two parter (boo!). This is part one of my first Patreon poll. My minions decided what I should build and this was the winner. So I submit - my take on a Meso-American Ziggurat! ✌

man, congrats you reached 100 sub! i know is not important the number of sub in YouTube but that means you are making good stuff and people want to know more! keep it up, cheers!! It means a lot to me. And while it’s not important in the scheme of things, it is a goal of mine in the long term to quit my job and make this my full time gig. Nothing would give me greater satisfaction than waking up every day not having to punch a time clock and instead wake up with purpose. But I also try not to take any of it for granted because I’ve been having such a blast playing with glue and paint and wood. Haha! And my infant niece who is going to need something positive in her life, I cannot wait to show her the hobby, and gaming in general! If I never get more than 100 subs it was all worth it. It’s literally my favorite thing to make videos and craft miniature stuff! And on that note:

Sorry I haven’t been posting here in a bit. I’ll admit that I put it off sometimes because I’m just plain burnt. Haven’t even hardly had the time to craft anything since I got my new job. Hence why I’ve been posting mostly vlog-type vids (quicker and easier to shoot and edit).
I’ve got some pretty cool craft projects in the works however that should peak your interests. I’ll post them as soon as I get the chance.
Peace and thanks for all the positivity and support!
Cheers!

Same here, Ive set the craft aside for a while now. Sometimes a break brings a fresh approach! Good insight here. Due to the Family÷Career balancing act, my allotment of crafting time is limited. On a good week, I'll get in 8-10 hours of crafting. Usually it's closer to 2-4 hours. If I find a way to include my kids (I always look for ways to include them), I'll score longer crafting time. The relevance of all of this to your advice is that my limited crafting time forces me to spend it well because there will be long breaks in between. This means more time to think and plan the next craft (lots of time for fresh approaches), including how to most effectively create something to maximize time/project efficiency. Additionally, adherence to DM Scotty's prime basic advice is crucial to my crafting schedule: Only make what you absolutely need for the next adventure. I'm still nascent to crafting, but this simple advice has helped me tremendously in avoiding burn out so far. Pax✌️

Sadly, my craft is based around a content upload schedule for a budding YouTube audience. And since my game group has scattered to the wind, my campaign abandoned, I draw inspiration from things I feel like making on a whim, or with the suggestion of patrons.
It kinda sucks because I’ve had a semi regular group to DM for for almost 6 years and it’s suddenly up and gone. I’m afraid to not post my weekly video for fear of losing viewers. Kinda stuck in like a tick now. Lol.

I honestly don't know how YouTubers with jobs & families to juggle can maintain a weekly content production schedule, especially if they have Patreons/patrons/paying subscription members. Mass kudos to them. Also, I just "helped" your upload schedule by growing your audience by 1 subscriber...lol.

Credo DM said: I take it even further: I ask myself whether a project will realistically be use-able multiple times... If not, I usually will not pursue it further. My group prefers more Theater of the Mind (ToM), so we rely heavily upon a battlemat and wet-erase markers (Crayola seem to be the best, much better than Vis-A-Vis, by far, for ease of erasing!). I've been burned by some projects, so I am much more careful, now. My crafting time is limited, and highly irregular. For these reasons, I need to be sure I will pull them out, and use them in multiple games, or I really need to want them for that special game. Otherwise, I go with ToM. My other concern is that when I pull out full terrain, the game changes modes, becoming more of a miniatures game. I enjoy miniatures games, as well as role-playing, so I'm good with it, but my players appetites vary, leaning far more towards RPG's with ToM, than they do miniatures gaming. I play 2e BattleSystem (BS), as well. I gear all of my crafting projects towards both D&D and BS games. I try to make things which I can use in both games, preferably multiple times. Years ago, I purchased a plastic wood fort, made for 54mm Cowboys and Indians and US Cavalry figures. It works better with 28mm figures. I improved it for my needs, mounting it on a very large MDF base, as well as some paint, and a wash. I've used it in four BS games, thus far, with another in the planning/preparing stages. Last Saturday, I pulled it out to use as an Orc Fort, in some woods, which the PC's attacked, in my RPG game. It was a lot of fun, particularly since the PC's did not have to imagine its layout, nor did I have to draw it out, on the battlemat, with pens! That is five times I've used that piece in a game, with a sixth use (large BS game) in preparation. That, to me, makes the purchase, and the work afterwards, worthy of my time and money. Not every project has seen such use. But from my failures, I have learned. YMMV, and that is fine with me. It is all about gaining enjoyment out of what we do. Cheers!

You raise a few good notions. Multiple uses is something I struggle with. My meso-American Temple is a good example of a single use item, where as my ice floe tiles can be either ice floes or a frozen cavern (I’ve used them for both). If you can turn an item’s purpose on its head, then it’s a good piece as far as I’m concerned. My players are just the opposite and tend to struggle with TotM. So terrain and battle mats help tremendously. I also struggle with relating information in TotM combat so that’s another potential issue. As long as I have potential use for it, and room to store it I will make it. Sometimes just for the fun of using new techniques, or of being proud with the result. For me, I get a lot out of the creative process itself. So just sitting down and crafting something is worth it if it satisfies the obsessive craft urge I get.

Absolutely; so far, I've focused on modular and reusable crafts: scatter terrain, dungeon tiles, furnishings (furniture, barrels, crates, etc), doors, and the like. I have one piece scatter terrain that can be considered a site specific set piece, but it's a location that will be visited many times (it's a sanctuary for the PCs, a place for solace and healing). I don't quite have enough skill yet to craft a city-full of buildings or climactic set-piece tiles. But, I plan to try my hand soon at one of Scotty's small 2.5D structures with removable 3D outside & roof. Pax✌️
