I found this neat sculpt while looking through the Halloween novelties on sale (the selection is getting better year by year, but with Halloweeen not being a native holiday here in Denmark, I still envy those of you in the US all those little bits and bobs that you can get around now): It's a pencil eraser, so nice and solid - and quite heavy. It's not quite as large as my fist, but then I've got quite large hands according to my wife ;-) Now a skull is well and good, but for my intended purpose, it had one too many eyes. This being an eraser, it carves quite easily, so digging a rough hole where the eyes were was easy: Then a spot of green stuff to make a new eye socket: Given the rubber surface, I wanted something uniform and solid to paint on. So on with a mixture of black paint and PVA. It gave a nice smooth surface that retained the details of the eraser (really nice detail actually): Then white spray primer and a sepia wash (my go-to method for bone): The pink shiny beads just have a bit of thin steel wire glued in the through-hole. A bit of stone work on the base and such: Now I just need to get it posed with a couple of adventures for scale (OK, I might also highlight the teeth a bit and so on).
