The water effect was a bit of a disaster but it's been stabilized. The paint job really needs some contrast. It'll also need a few swamp-ish plants and a bit of flocking but I've been pretty discouraged about the whole thing at this point. Any suggestions?
You could do some dry brushing with grays or blacks to give it contrast. That would continue the dead look. You could also put some green color in, but I would use a green toward the blue end of the spectrum. That would give you a 'cool' color where as one toward the yellow end would give you a 'warm' color. The blue should give you a sickly coloration.

Your swamp water looks good to me, even if it didn't work out quite the way you wanted. I agree with skunkape's suggestion to dry brush - I would use gray. Unless you are making a totally "dead lands" swamp, there should definitely also be some green or greenish-gray on the trees. Most swamps with trees have mostly living trees after all, and living plants on the trees and the limited understory. For example, see the photo at: www.redbubble.com/people/sienna62/works/7242174-louisiana-bayouNote that the flora on the trunks tends to run vertically, not horizontally.

Tried my hand at some bottles. They've always been problematic little things. Not 100% pleased but they're good enough for the table.

Wow! Medieval glass bottles were hand-made, never two alike. To my eye, they look pretty fantastic. How did you make them?... Please?

That method is absolutely genius. Thanks for pointing us that direction!

That method is absolutely genius. Thanks for pointing us that direction! Absolutely. The only other method I'd found up to this point involved some tricky business with these bulbs. I think this new method is the best I'm going to get without paying for the buggers. I've been experimenting with other things to make some assorted table dressing stuff, I'll try to post the results when I manage to finish them.

Made mine with beads, toothpicks and hotglue. The toothpicks had the groove carved near the end.

Made mine with beads, toothpicks and hotglue. The toothpicks had the groove carved near the end. Always enjoy your work Sam. Those bottles are pretty nice. I've heard somewhere that several coats of clear nail polish can impart a decent glass look over something like that. It's something I'll have to try when I start in on potion bottles.

This is one of the first things I ever crafted. Going to revamp it for the desert.

The new year is off to an interesting start. I've got significantly less time for crafting these days but maybe, for me, that's a good thing. Here's what I've been working on: Trying to get a few pieces made for dwarven settlements. I hope everyone here is starting out this year on a path better than the one they walked before it. I really appreciate this little forum & those that keep it afloat.

Caspan Edrogoth, I'm going to make a friendly suggestion... I'd use harder material, to give your dice bounce, inside the tower. Soft foam baffles will absorb the impact of your dice, making them just fall, softly, through your Tower. To illustrate what I'm talking about, take a look at this video I helped make: d4-d20 rolling through a hardwood Dice Tower, in slow motion. With the dice bouncing, as demonstrated in the video, you need not worry that your dice will be favoring any particular number, when they spew out of the Tower... As the video shows, they will bounce, and spin, like crazy. When I used mine in a fantasy mini's war game a couple of months ago, the other players gave me grief that I should abandon the Tower, because my rolls were awful. In truth, they were dumping their dice out of their hands, while mine were truly random. My rolls sucked tailpipe exhaust, but they were truly random. And I am okay with that. To get a decent reaction, I'd suggest using a hardwood, like Hickory (inexpensive): 1,840 hardness on the Janka scale (Oak is 1,450). The Tower in the video is made of (expensive) Bloodwood, 2,950 Janka hardness -- extremely reactive, causing the dice to spin, and bounce, as shown. Just a suggestion. I would finish the foam Tower, since you are so far along with the project. Play with it, for a while, and see what you think. Experimentation is King, Baby! Cheers!

I would make sure when going with foam that you coat the inside with some varnish. Otherwise the dice will quickly destroy the foam from the impacts. Granted, that coating will probably not be as hard as wood as suggested by sgtslag, but it will strengthen the foam somewhat.

Pressing forward on my first dice tower. I painted & sealed the inside before assembly to make things easier for myself.

I like these. Great design, great paint job. The buttresses on such a squat building are overkill -- just how I imagine a dwarf to over-engineer his stuff. Perfect! Cheers!
