Welp been busy. Never really took much in the way of pictures while doing a lot of my builds. Started taking some recently thought I would throw them into one thread for giggles.
So I started off with some tiles, basic stuff nothing special there. But I built a few special rooms for big battles/treasure and wanted some of the cast treasure piles.
So did the Clay and molds thing -
The silver I had didn't work out overly well. I think I am going to spray this with just a tad bit of gold glitter to give it some bling.
Punched these out from a fender, painted up with silver and gold for some loose treasure.
Next up was what started out as a beholder.
So took a dense foam ball and covered it with Crayola Air Dry clay, Used a round wooden "coin" to press in the plate lines. The down side is the clay contracted quite a bit and cracked. Just refilled it and hit it with some paint. Use a little card board to mask off the mouth/teeth. When I did the highlight for the plates I though it was pretty damn creepy even w/o the eye stalks. So I left it as is. No eyes at all. This Beholder is a product of evil drow magic at least that is how I am going to end up using it. In trying to do something with the teeth, I kinda messed it up and went a different route. Used a dremel with a bur bit and dug into the foam and made the mouth cavity then used some tooth picks jammed into the foam with just a bit of hot glue.
The color in the mouth didn't work out quite like I wanted but it works. The patch where the eye should have been was a happy happenstance that will work into the story as well.
So I still needed a normal beholder so Attempt #2
So wanted this one to have its mouth open, so I peeled up the mouth area and supported it with the stick until it had dried up. This one cracked baddy as well, use a little white glue to secure the edges and let it eat. Also added a lower jaw to the ball.
So Started working on the eye stalks, I was going to use heavy duty paper clips, didn't really work like i wanted, so got a coat hanger and clipped up drilled some holes a bit smaller and pressed in. then bent up the hangers to point up where I wanted and then covered in clay, using a large ball stick pins for the eyes.
So I have a Wiz that like to cast hold person ETC so I made this marker from some dense foam I cut real thin then cut hand shapes into. I used a dremel to cut the fingers and attached it to some plastic and a base piece.
and here is Lex in his new home taking 1d6 fire damage per round
I'll have a a few posts coming up.
Couple more updates.
Bridge in process, they jute string is a bit more of an MF'er than I expected
Posted these else where but some treasure gems for handouts
Picked up 36 smaller 25ct sized colored "diamonds" on ebay or amazon for a few bucks.
Casting some more small things. Post those up when I pop them out.
OK a few updates here :
The skull pile :
I am going to attempt to cast a few walls like that for a back drop as well
The ubiqutous fire ball
Ball of force or water I think I need to add some more light blue to this
Beholder updates. almost done still working on the Main Eye
Ok Skull walls are cast. I re did the mold a bit after the first as I didnt get deep enough impression for the look I wanted :
Ok so started some trees, I am not sure who's thread I stole this from but Thanks ! LOL
I did several of the some what normal trees so no pictures of those, only thing I did was vary the tightness of the cone.
These I did something a little different.
Have to see how they paint up
Ok got em painted up and mounted the picture didnt come out very well :/ Meh
Did some different heights, and a some leaners for variety
Did a little more casting
First face cast got an air pocket that wouldn't pop, the second did much better, and I dropped in some glass bits for the eyes.
Used the skull bead to make teh base for something, not sure what, but the plaster was a bit to thick and got a lot of air pockets in the jaw areas.
Ok So here is a second bridge I have started, it will be used on the same base tile, I wanted to have a few options and I hate building the same thing twice. This will be a typical rope span bridge.
So tacked down 2 runs of the rope to my work surface, then under that put some parchment paper to keep the hot glue from sticking as I glued down the runners.
Here I have added the up ropes glued to the main ropes
Using some thin cardboard, I made cover plates for the Chasm glued down the Post
This is a tile for having to jump the chasm this is on a 1.5" to 10ft scale, I really didn't do a very good job of the painting on chasm walls for perspective. Meh
Next is a little hand out, I am working on. I wanted to hand the players the book so they could tinker with it a bit. I have a translated packet for them when they make the rolls.
Here is a sheet glued into the book. Using a nice new sharp razor blade cut out a few pages, leaving about 1/2"
Here is the back side, I used Super Tack glue and it was a bit quicker than I expected in this instance, but it wasn't too bad.
So, as they don't have Automotive Engines in DnD so I re covered the book, added card stock to the covers to make it look a bit more legit
The suspension bridge all finished up on the base chasm, a few things I would like to redo but its will serve its purpose
So back to the rope bridge, putting the hand rails ropes up, to attach the hangers.
All done, I was real happy with this. Still need to touching up the paint on the "logs"
So the idea was to be able to throw down colored foam for different things Water, lava etc. Oddly enough both those foam bits are the same color in person and well They are pink vs Red in the photo lol, so it is a river of "Love"
Thanks for looking
