I was visiting Dollar Tree picking up some crafting stuff and stumbled onto a Wild West Covered Wagon playset in with the toy Army Men. Figured for $1USD I'd take a chance on it as I could always break the wagon up into terrain, especially the wagon wheels. I was pleasantly surprised at what all came in the set. The wagon is way underscale to the figures it comes with. Note: The backdrop in the images is a 1 Inch (25mm) by 1 Inch (25mm) Grid. The Bag Covered Wagon with D&D human and D&D Troll for scale. Wagon with top removed and D&D Human, Troll, and Horse for scale. The wagon holds 3 D&D medium miniatures with 1 inch bases without any problems. Top view Surprisingly the set came with a collapsible tripod, removable cooking pot, and separate cooking fire as well. I think the scale of those items is perfect for giants, trolls, ogres, and other large monsters. I plan on repainting the wagon and camp site set. I will probably embellish the wagon with some craft sticks and other things to hide the flaws in it and replace the bridle. I doubt I'll keep the cover on the wagon; I'm thinking about using the paper towel tent method on it and turning it into a large tent for a camp. For a buck the set is well worth grabbing.

I used craft and popsicle sticks to cover the parts of the wagon that were plastic with no sculpted details. Next I detached the wagon wheels and painted them. Then I painted the wagon. When everything was dry I glued the wagon wheels in place so the wagon wouldn't roll all over the gaming table. The wagon can still fit 3 minis in it, I also found that it fits some miniature crates and sand bags from an old Big Lots military playset perfectly. Note: As with all cheap plastic toys, be sure to wash the wagon and accessories with soap and water to get rid of the mold release residue left on the plastic. Then prime them. This type of plastic needs to be primed before painting otherwise most acrylic paints will peel off. I also recommend sealing the paint with Pledge future shine or another heavy duty clear coating and finishing it off with a dull coat finish to prevent any scratches in the paint.

That's awesome. I spent a little while crafting a wagon and the proportions were not great, shame I can't get any cool toys like that in the UK, every time I check it's either something way to big or just a load of dinosaurs in tubs lol.

The wagon looks fantastic. Can you post photo's of the painted stew pot, as well? It looks like it will be perfect for Giants, Trolls, and Ogres. Thanks for sharing a fantastic find/conversion. Cheers!

Cheers! I haven't gotten around to painting the rest of the set yet. Plan to do it soon and will post pics of it when I do. I'm hoping to get time to check out another Dollar Tree today and hope to find a couple more of the sets. I only found the one at my local Dollar Tree and I would like to get a couple more to turn into broken wagons.

These wagon playsets are awesome. I have five of the wagons so far and trying to decide how to convert a few of them into a proxy RDT gypsy wagon. They are a great find!

I've had no luck with the Dollar Tree lately. I went to 3 Dollar Stores today and couldn't find covered wagons or Dragons. I went to 2 other Dollar Trees and didn't find the wagons either. Only saw 1 on the shelf at the Dollar Tree I found it at and bought that one. All the others I checked had Army Men, Fire Men, and Police men sets and no Wild West ones left. I haven't seen dragons at any of my local stores. The wagon's mold is branded Green Brier International on the bottom. That is Dollar Tree's store brand so it should show up again in stores. I've also been checking stores for the Jada Toys 1 2/3 inch metal figurines as well with no such luck. Would like to get a Harry potter Dementor and a few others for custom bases. They are supposed to be $1 each at Walmarts, but none of the Walmarts, Targets, or Toys R Us's had them in my area. news.entertainmentearth.com/2017/06/23/die-cast-metal-mini-figure-collectors-rejoice-theres-case-nano-metalfigs-everyone/Its close to time for the Summer Resets in stores though so hopefully they'll start showing up again in mid July- Early August.

From what I've seen online, the Jada Toys 1 2/3 inch metal figures are an August release.

I picked up three sets at one of the two Dollar Trees near me yesterday, and they still had 2 more left. I didn't check the other store. If you check back occasionally, maybe you will succeed in finding them.
No dragons anywhere, though. Haven't seen them at all the last few months.

I need to frequent dollar stores more often than I do, it's very seldom that I ever find the great stuff you guys do!

I will just add that if there is a Daizo near you [basically a Japanese dollar-fifty store, with some things costing more], they may have figurines in their home décor corner. Can't remember exactly what they call that section, but they had oriental dragon and foo dog statues during Asian New Year that were an excellent size for largish statues for a 25-28mm set-up. Their stuff can be very, very seasonal, so I only managed to get one of the foo dogs. One of these days I will goad myself into dealing with an image-hosting site and post a picture.

I assume that it's a lot like the fairy garden stuff at a lot of the hobby stores?
