Hi Folks! So I was working on my next crafting project( pictures coming soon) and had a light-bulb turn on! While I was staring at some old washers and Dollar Tree plastic skull rings, I came up with the idea of combing both to make Kill Markers to help my future players remember or know were their gruesome victims lay . *****Update since Photobucket doesn't show images***** New Link imgur.com/a/3iMA0

Wow, that coloration really looks like old, pooled blood! Can you give us a step by step tutorial so we see what colors you used? Pretty please?

I only used Red, Pink, and Burgundy...I dipped the brush into each shade at once and just mixed them on the markers. I allowed them to dry and then stippled each color with different amounts of paint. Afterwards, I added a black wash (Citadel Oil) and applied a super gloss sealer to give it that gorey blood feel.
Also, my lighting actually makes this photo look a little darker than they are. They are little brighter in person.

I've made a bunch of the same kind of markers using the skull rings. I hot glued mine to round wooden bases I got years ago, making them lay flat. Then painted them black and red. I'll take a picture of them when I get a chance.

Just out of interest, and with no real connection to Edragon's markers: Whenever I hear people using kill markers, I wonder why they don't just let the toppled minis of the slain enemies lying on the battlemap...?

Could be confusing if you have a bunch of minis lying on their side, if you have other effects like prone, ko, bleeding and dead

World Works games came with out a set of markers that you can use, prone, frozen, bleeding, etc. I've used them in the past, but we've been using dead markers that tend to be somewhat flat, so you can always place a mini over top of the dead marker, something that is hard to do if you have just tipped the mini over. We used to just tip minis when they were dead, but we switched to the dead markers just for ease of movement on the battlefield.

Yes, you can't place a mini over a tipped over mini. and lots of them can create quite some chaos on the battlefield. We've tried that several times and actually liked it because it creates something like realism. You can't easily place your mini on a tipped over mini, just as you couldn't stand safely on the body of a fallen enemy. We used improvised dead markers (coins, dice, ect) over the years, and we found that while the growing chaos caused by rising numbers of 'dead' minis on the battlefield eats up a little time, it adds a sense of ...lets call it 'battle history' that helps you immerse in the whole situation: You simply don't forget which marker was which enemy, you can even pile their minis into barricades, or hide behind a corpse, you will have to take into account difficult terrain caused by the bodies, etc. But anyway, I don't want to imply that one method is better than any other. It's just a matter of personal taste. Give it a try and decide what you like better.

I got that, I didn't want to imply that either! I treat the dead bodies as difficult terrain, while one of the DMs makes you roll an Acrobatics skill check if you want to stand in that square along with treating it as difficult terrain, so as you say, matter of personal taste!

I would of never thought to push the skulls flat to allow players to stand on top of the markers...learn something everyday

Be careful if you use hot glue to make them stay flat. Your fingers will get a little toasty while the hot glue cures! How hot depends on the temperature setting of your hot glue gun. Since one of mine is a two setting gun, I usually use the cooler setting.
