So I wanted to check by here before stepping on a lot of toes and get some information and advice on selling things I make. For a while now I've been wanting to jump into selling things I make to support my hobbies, mostly doing woodworking and sculpting and have been making a cnc/3d printer for that goal along with mold making for rapid production. Recently though I made a set of 2.5D next walls for my DM/fiance and our group basically all said I should make more to sell them since some of them are in war-games and apparently a lot of people would buy stuff like that or some of the (imo mediocre) hot glue sculptures I've made for the campaign. Apparently a lot of people either don't know how or have interest in making stuff or don't have the time to.
I'm rather torn though because while I'd love to make extras of things posted here or from various youtube crafters with the intent of selling, it seems too close to copyright infringement at worst and at the least screwing over other crafters. For war gaming props it seems less of an issue because people like Mel the TerrainTutor show mostly techniques but for example D&D tiles you can find any variety of specific tutorials to make certain tiles that it's nearly impossible to make from scratch without taking ideas from so many others that can easily border on copying.
In short I have no idea to what extent the methods or styles developed by the countless crafters here can be used on products before it's harmful or at least disrespectful to sell them. Also giving credit for each thing except some obvious innovations made by specific people would become impossibly complex as ideas are shared so much that any particular craft shown uses various methods used by others.
I'd really like some advice since the prospect of at least breaking even for this hobby with better supplies is something I've wanted for a while and have gotten quite a bit of encouragement.
