I need a monster book like the vault or manual. Wich one has the most monsters, asuming I only get one(I'd rather get 1 thick one than 3 small ones). Do I get manual 1, 2, or 3? Or do I get vault? Please help!

if only getting one, research them , have a quick google of there index and see the types in it, make sure it suits your game, no use getting lots of Undead monsters if that's not your style, no use having lots if not going to use them

I would start with monster manual 1, it has the most commonly used monsters. Unless you are playing with very experienced players and want to throw a bunch of wierd stuff at them.

Tucker - I assume from the way that was phrased that you are playing 4th Ed ?
Take a look at the Table of contents of the 3 books and see what works for you.

Tucker...didn't we have this discussion over on the old forum? I thought we had finally helped you decide that the best bang for your buck, since you couldn't get access to the D&D insider stuff, would be the Monster Vault, (if you could find one), but that if not, that you should start with MM 1 and then add the others as you can. Ebay is a great place to look for used copies. It's where I got my copies of most of the books I own... Google is another good place to check as well for info..... Pathfinder has some good online resources in pdf form as well I think if you ever decide to go that route... Good luck...

Well, if you are not going to be using the Digital Insider compendium, then I personally recommend the Vault.

The Vault would be handy, otherwise Monster Manual 1 has just about everything you need in it. a DDI subscription gives you access to all of them and is fairly cheap.
