I've started sculpting characters and monsters to augment our Out of the Abyss adventure. It's challenging but I'm learning stuff everyday. Here is my quaggoth demon sculpted from green stuff. very nice ,since when do you sculpt ? how many layers ?

Figured I'd throw these guys in for fun. They're a unique monster for my campaign. The idea was that they're a sort of elemental undead spirit. They're supposed to look twisted and unnatural, like faces screaming in the flames. I started with paper clips that I twisted into simple armatures and pierced into wine corks. Then I carefully filled them in with hot glue. After that, I used the hot glue gun to create the flame texture from the bottom going up. I'd squeeze out a ribbon of glue, let it cool for a few seconds, and then wipe it upward with my finger. This created a really cool torn effect with lots of details to paint. Then I just stuck them on some one inch bases, and painted them like flames. These fire mephids are wonderful and easily the most creative crafted monsters I've ever seen. Kudos, Mr. Skull!

Here is my quaggoth demon sculpted from green stuff. very nice ,since when do you sculpt ? how many layers ? I started modifying figures last year. The modifications became more and more severe until I finally just started from scratch and sculpted my own. I mostly worked with Sculpey until two months ago when I discovered green stuff from watching DM Scotty's videos. With all the doing, breaking down in angry frustration, and redoing, it's hard to say how many layers are actually in the finished model. Roughly speaking, I'd say two layers of GS over a wire armature.

Considering all the angry shouting in arcane languages I did as I hacked off huge pieces to try it yet again, I'd say "tenacious" would be the perfect word to describe the process.

yeah the transistion fimo/sculpey to greenstuff is awfull i messed up half a dosen project before getting it rigth ^^ the concept of layering is totaly different being able to complete the project and having a decent result while "using an unorthodox technique" make me think that you must be quite skilled can you post some of your sculpey scult?

Without cheating (i.e. browsing the MM), no idea. But it seems to have tentacles, and a new kind to boot, so I'm already a fan.

can you post some of your sculpey scult? As requested, here is some of my sculpey work. The stonework of this tower is sculpey with a YC Mongolian take home box as a base. LOL. The woodwork on the tower consists of popsicle sticks stained like wood rather than painted. The figure on the tower was my blind fighter who inadvertently came out looking more like Lady Gaga. Her Katana is hand-forged steel. My Jabberwock started out as a Reaper figure, but it was modified so severely that after three months work it was practically a new sculpted model. The "son" figure is all sculpey. The vorpel sword is hand-smithed steel. (It's a minor obsession of mine to replace my figures' weaponry with stuff I smith.) Here is the drawing of the Jabberwock I used as a model for the ....um....model. Since the Jabberwock's outfit reminded me of the white rabbit, I conceived of it as sort of the evil version of the white rabbit and painted it as such.

Very nice tower and Jaberwoki. :-) I agree! I could not remember the name of the monster. I have not seen one in a while.

Wow! Tremendous models, everyone. I really loved your flumph, Sam. I've just been thinking about crafting a Grell. Sort of a similar shape with the floating tentacles, I think.
That is an amazing jabberwock! Are the wings made from polymer clay, too? And if so, what magic words did you utter to enchant it to do that?

Since it took me about a dozen attempts to get the wings to work, I wouldn't call the many words I spoke "magical". But they were awfully colorful.

The color-changing threw me off, I've never read that before (or have completely forgotten about it). Looks great!

You guys may have made a mistake encouraging me to post some of my modeling work. Here is another highly modified Reaper figure I made in honor of a dear friend who passed away. The modifications were done with green stuff with the exception of the great sword which (as usual) is hand-smithed. (not that I'm obsessive or anything.) The quality of the photo is not optimal as I was experimenting with editing tools on my smart phone. My bad.
