Your doing fine. Best advice I can give, is don't be afraid to experiment with color and technique. Been painting quite a while, and only recently discovered "color theory" go figure. It made a world of difference in the overall presentation of finished pieces.

Thnx drwillsdc. I just tried to paint a rat swarm.......saying it looks like a five year old painted it is an insult to five year olds. I don't even think I'll post a pic. pretty embarrassing...... edit: They look like poo pizza.... lol ......sigh....

The base coat looks good and clean easier said than done. Add a wash to them and then dry brush the base colors back on. There are a bunch of great painting vids on YouTube. That's where I get a lot of inspiration.

Howdy,
What is the source for those minis? Good job btw!
As for the rats, a dark wash will improve them significantly, Kev!

The D&D adventure series are a great source of minis. So is zombicide and Conan while all are fun games on their own!

I love that you multi-colored the rat swarm piles. Made them stand out. Great job and keep up the inspiration to us all for all your hard work and effort

I wouldn't beat yourself up on the rats; re, it didn't look like you had much to work with there. Doing them all in the same color probably would yield a better result. The Guys standing next to the Swarms look SPLENDID...VERY NICELY DONE!

Although the variation in colors does make the swarm less of a blob and more identifiable as rats. Using a wash, as drwillsdc and Kev suggested above, would make them less contrasty, but still distinct.

The Guys standing next to the Swarms look SPLENDID... VERY NICELY DONE!The rat swarms (the D&D pre painted ones) were just one colour, either black or grey, can't remember I wanted them to look different from the pre painted ones. I will add a wash to these and then try a dry brush to see how they turn out. The figures standing by my rat swarms are pathfinder and/or D&D pre-painted minis I didn't paint those haha. I will get into painting human figs later.

Howdy, What is the source for those minis? Good job btw! As for the rats, a dark wash will improve them significantly, Kev! What kind of wash do you suggest? should I buy a pre made wash or just make my own? If I make my own any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Although my swarms have a noobish paint job I don't want to have to re do them if I can help it. And as a reminder I'm looking for table ready not pro paint job. But I do want them to be as good as I can get them from this point thanks!

Yes, you "can" make one. Easier to buy. I would get the army painter wash set, or if you have a few more bucks, the wash set from citadel. You won't have to mess with mixing. Just FYI, you can't make a proper wash mixing acrylic paint and water alone. It won't flow right.
