Just made one, of the eroded cavern base I sculpted with sculpey. Wow they sure are durable and flexible Casting one with hydrostone at the moment, but would like to try other things. What is the best air dry clay to use with these? What is the best two part plastic? Looking for affordable as possible in both cases Thanks, excited about this.

My first corn starch mold. I should of mixed the paint with the silicone first before adding cornstarch So I got some specks. Need a good affordable source for "Silicone I" caulk. I paid $5.35 for 10 oz at Home Depot and that seems high to me. It's going to be fairly expensive if I make a lot of molds heh. Wouldn't mind half that price -- would buy in bulk. I should of wiped a film of baby oil on the flat surface I used (a tile), because the silicone mold stuck to it a bit as it dried, so you can see some roughness around the edges, but it doesn't affect the item being cast at least.

And my first cast. Just popped the hydrostone out of the mold. It's an eroded base for my mushmrooms to go in cavern. Figure since I'll be having different cavern variations (brown/tan, underdark, underwater, ice, lava) I'll be needing lots of bases . The oven baked sculpey original:

I can tell you right now, this is going to be very addictive, like tauster said I can see myself sculpting a lot of stuff and in more detail from now on, because I can cast my work, preserving it forever!

Glad you like casting as much as I do! So after 3D printing, you start to master a second way of mass-producing stuff.

Since it is corn starch is there any chance for it to deteriorate to mold or whatever? No pun intended. Does that nasty smell ever go away? lol. God these seems so durable and feel so flexible! love it. Wonder how many casts I can do before they start breaking down significantly. How do they hold up to resin compared to hydrostone? Guessing it is similar to the Hirst Arts molds? i..e resin eats them up quicker

Pressed sculpey into the mold I made from my sculpey sculpture Flipped it and pressed it flat on the table, so it got mashed in well and has a perfectly flat bottom. At first it was too much sculpey , it wouldn't mash flat, so I had to take some out and re-smash. Perfect the 2nd time Popping out was a breeze.. then I baked it. Going to use sculpey for these bases, as hydrostone is too brittle. I like that I can take a snapshot of my work and then make it into sculpey again to work it more. Kind of like saving a file in Blender. Can undo etc.
