Hey folks, been pretty active in the FB group, figured it was time to have myself committed. Next best thing was to join the forum!
I'm Matthew Shelley, the poster of many arcane and wondrous things from my tiny attic paintspot.
So being a child in the 80s, my parents bought into the whole D&D=Satan thing and it was wholly verboten in my house. Which of course just made me want to play it more. So I became obsessed with not just D&D but fantasy, other RPGs etc. I got my first actual game book in the form of the 2nd edition of RuneQuest, until they found that and burned it. Then I found out about Call of Cthulhu, and that was ok to play for some reason.
But really by that point I had discovered miniatures. My first set were the 1993 Bram Stoker's Dracula movie tie ins, which I still have. Collected for years, eventually got into 40k around age 15 or so and it essentially took over everything. Still love 40k. During active duty I began playing D&D properly with friends, but really didn't like how minis were incorporated (or rather, weren't)
Nowadays I have a 5 year old daughter Ophelia who is the world to me, and she loves all this imagery and weird monsters, so I build all this stuff to entice her to play with me. My gaming group is my daughter and my wife these days, and its ok except when our 10 month old son Cavanaugh wants the attention.
Anyways, that's me.
Modeling wise, I began probably even before all that. My dad was a model maker for General motors for years, working in wood, metal, and cardboard, so I grew up with modeling all around me. I had dreams of winning a Golden Daemon, but never got into competing much. I've been active in the mini community for years now, but quickly felt outpaced by the up and coming incredible talent. Then I found DM Scotty and his super easy, super fun crafts. It put the fun back into my hobby! no longer was I worried about saving up for a Zone Mortalis, I could just get some foamcore and a glue gun and go to town! You've given me my hobby back!!!
I lvoe this community and desire to participate and add to it as much as possible.
I have an YouTube channel of my own coming along, not craft related, but something I think most would be interested in. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for having me!
