Good stuff and a fellow Canuck! Thanks for the reply! There are a few of us! Calgary here. Where are you? Northern Ontario. Calgary is nice and the taxes in Alberta are pretty sweet compared to BC and Ontario. I visited century box game store about five years ago. Awesome store.

If you want a more obsidian type black for it, you can paint it in a way that's both simpler and more difficult in its own ways. Base coat everything in a matte black, let it dry, then paint it in a gloss black, avoiding the carved runes, let it dry. Then give it a couple thick coats of gloss varnish. The end result looks a lot like obsidian... If you add a bit of a dark purple metallic as a highlight after the glossy black, it actually works for adamant(ine/ium) as described in a lot of things...

One general thing that could improve the look would be to, before your basecoat, take a rough rock or a tight ball of crumpled aluminum foil and roll/press it into the foam of the sections you want to be stonework. Your arch looks far to smooth for roughly worked stone.
You might also consider trimming back the base of the hut to closer to the walls. Both because it has less of a chance to warp and because it helps you with setup and storage by taking less space.
Another thing you might consider is adding a covered entryway to the huts, A couple craft sticks to support it and some of the off pieces of towel would let you do an interesting look beyond the basics if for no other purpose than to add a more visible "chieftan" version of them. You might also consider some inserts of the cardstock covered with towel that could fit into the doorways to show one that's closed off to sight or similar.

Certainly you could rough up the stone, but there are plenty of examples of smoother cut stone, and I personally didn't want anything overly rough for this application.
Trimming back the base is a 100% valid idea, I thought I had mentioned that in the video, but might not have. It had crossed my mind as well. Either way, I think doubling it or just using a better basing material on larger pieces might just be a better idea.
I like the idea for a "chieftains" hut or similar. Could use little skull beads or what have you on the front of it as well.
Thanks for the feedback, always like to hear other people's ideas!

I like the aluminum foil armature covered with paper mache. I will have to give this a try. I need some deciduous trees.
