Looking for something square, flat and that is oven safe. I guess it could be ceramic or glass.
I'd like to use this as a sculpey build plate. That way I can just slide it in the oven and go.
Right now using bottom of pyrex pie pan and well that's hard to handle taking in and out of the oven.
Other uses:
I'd also like to use this glass plate to sit on top of my palette to keep paints from drying out. Additionally, I think it'd be nice to use as a palette itself or to remove excess paint from brushes. It could clean up easily along with my ceramic well palette.
Don't know if a ceramic tile can be used. say a 6x6 or so from Home depot? Those are clay and glaze right? They were fired in large kiln? Should be oven safe no?

Yes, ceramic tiles are oven safe. The shiny surface is smooth glass, melted on top of a ceramic substrate. I would not recommend shocking them, thermally, though (take them out of the oven, hot, and put them in cool/cold water...). Heck, I would not do that with Pyrex glass either!
As a Sculpey base, to insert your sculpted pieces into the oven, to bake the clay, they would work fine. I use a white, 4"-square tile, as my hobby paint palette. To clean, I can just use a razor blade to scrape off the dried paint. I usually wash with dish soap, afterwards, to remove any residue. Not sure about the other, asked for, uses, but they are water-proof. Cheers!
