The diamond helm is done. The whole head is large so getting it to sit on his head and not flop all over was a challenge. Ended up taking apart an old toy fireman's helmet and using the straps from the inside. Mounted them to a hard foam insert and then reinforced the sides with soft foam. He actually pushes his head into it now and it holds tight. Tomorrow I am going to optimize it by cutting out any foam that I can while still holding the structure so there is still plenty of air flow inside it. It works pretty good now though. Tomorrow I need to get the chest plate made. I'll be glad when this project is over.

Mine-craft-alicious!
Hope that the deliveryman brings your parcel to resolve the LED issue before Halloween. I love that the helmet can be removed from the Steve "head".
Way to go!
Where did you get the checker pattern? I'm assuming that it was printed on a color printer and then glued to the head, sword, and armor cardboard?

Some guy made the costume pattern a couple years ago and posted pics of his kids costume. People went nuts asking for it so he threw it up for download. Then he decided instead to pull the downloads and put it on Etsy for $15. I looked all over for a good template and really didn't feel like making my own pattern for it, so I paid him the $15.
Now I am all for supporting other people's work, this was kinda a ripoff for $15. The templates weren't correct. There were no instructions at all, just around 30 large 11"x17" images. When I was done I have a LOT of printed images left and the template was for exactly what I made, minus the sword. That one the images were out there for free. My wife printed all of this for me at her work on their presentation printer on poster stock. I can't imagine what a commercial printer would have charged me, especially considering all the excess that I ended up with.
So I ended up sorting through them all and looking up images online of Diamond Steve and piecing it together. I either cut the cardboard and made the pieces I needed and then added the graphics, or I lair them all out on a large piece (such as the chest), glued/taped them to the cardboard and then cut it out.
Either way it was pretty time consuming. Getting the head to sit on his properly was a real trick. I took the plastic sizing insert out of a toy helmet. I put some foam in the top of the head and then fixed the plastic insert to that, placing it at the proper height. Then I framed in cardboard close around his head and wrapped the sides and back with a soft foam insert, basically sandwiching his head so the large box isn't wobbling all over the place.
I still need to put some better shoulder pads inside the chest piece so it sits on him better. He is so thin he actually lets one of his shoulders slip through the neck hole and it sits crooked. That will be fixed. Lastly is his vision. I might have to cut out more between the eyes and paint some new mesh to go in there so he can see better.

My EL Tape showed up and we fixed the sword. Decided last night to do a last minute addition with the TNT bucket. I didn't spend much time on it but it will be dark ; This one is done thankfully.

No legs. It wouldn't be practical trying to walk with boxes for legs. It's fairly restrictive as it is. I am happy with it as is.

I've seen great transformers costumes with big legs and they still could walk. though i wonder how they did it. but mostly i was joking about the legs.
the same way we have a french video about body building and twhen everything said and done the new guy ask... what about the legs ? and the coach answers... Legs ?!! and then the camera goes down and he has tiny legs compared to his fully muscled up arms and body !
