I wish I had seen these before... 54mm tall Assyrian, and other ancient peoples, figures which could be painted up as Fire Giants, or even other races of Giants for your games. I am big on pressing into service non-fantasy figures for my fantasy games, just as E.G. Gygax did, back in the 1970's. I am currently working on using inexpensive 60mm tall Viking figures, as Frost Giants. Unfortunately, I went with Pathfinder pre-painted Fire Giant figures for my upcoming Giant modules mini's games. Had I seen the variety of ancient peoples figures, in 54mm sizes, I would have gone with them, instead! Could have saved around $4 per figure...
Anyway, here are some of the figure types I would recommend, for your consideration:
Manufacturer: Set Name: Source: Giant Race?
1. HaT Ancient Roman Velites e-Bay Frost? Cloud? Other?
2. HaT CARTHAGINIAN VETERAN INFANTRY e-Bay Cloud? Titans? Other?
3. HaT HASTATI INFANTRY e-Bay Cloud? Titans? Other?
4. HaT Spanish Infantry e-Bay Cloud? Titans? Other?
5. HaT CELTIBERIANS e-Bay Fire? Cloud? Titans? Other?
6. HaT HANNIBAL'S VETERANS e-Bay Fire? Cloud? Titans? Other?
7. Bassevich Ancient Assyrians e-Bay Fire (very best, IMO)? Cloud?
Titans? Other?
8. Russian Marx recast Vikings e-Bay Frost (very best, IMO)?
There are skeleton figures, of course, in 54-60 mm sizes, which are nice for representing Giant Skeletons. All of these figures are relatively inexpensive, clocking in at around $1-$2 per figure, typically. Even the Assyrians only clock in at $3.31 per figure, delivered! Compare that price with gaming figures... Granted, these are much lower quality of sculpting, but they take paint well enough, and their prices are very difficult to beat! Cheers!
