Thanks, everyone! I've been experiencing a little crafter's burnout lately. Several of my builds have stalled. "Crafting" in the computer is a way I can still exercise some creativeness (and still feel like I'm in the game) while recharging my normal crafting batteries.

Awesome works, all of them.
But you know what's one of my favourite aspects of 3D printing? Once you have created a certain detail, you can use it over and over again. Take for example your wood grain boards/planks: You have to create that texture only once and then you can use those boards in all kinds of builds without having to 'virtually carve' them again.

Take for example your wood grain boards/planks: You have to create that texture only once and then you can use those boards in all kinds of builds without having to 'virtually carve' them again. I am hoping to make that a true statement very soon. I am currently using two programs to create all of these pieces: A cad program that I build all of the basic parts in, and a modeling program where I add all the wood grain details. The cad program is extremely fast. I can build a section of the bar in about 10 minute (once I figure out the basic dimensions and shape). It takes me 40 minutes to add the wood grain to the same part in the modeling program. That program is very slow and require tons of processing power to render and alter files. It can often take 4 minutes just to save a file. I can import a cad file into the modeling program, but I currently cant get it back into cad after I have altered it. So right now, every bit of wood grain on every board is unique. And all the wood grain on every part across all builds are unique. Once I can figure out a reliable way to go from the modeling program to the cad program, I will be able to do some damage.

My guess (and I'm speaking/writing here as a total CAD noob, mind you!) is that every bit of time you invest in getting that done is well invested. But I don't think I'm telling you something new with this. It's meant more as a motivation, because I know that getting into new programs can turn frustrating very quickly sometimes...

Curufin, everything you make is awesome! That bar looks much nicer than the one I printed. I guess I need to get printing another one =)

Great because I am working on a whole new campaign, taking a new twist on things and I need tavern stuff as it will play a fairly big role.

Soooooooooo, the 3D printer killed the crafter star...? lol
Whole lot easier to push print and sit back then to:
actually design, cut, glue, and build...wait to dry...base...wait to dry...dry brush...wait to dry whala
I'm so jealous, u guys suk, I'm taking my Styrofoam and glue and going home

Nah, I seriously doubt I will ever stop crafting. I have way too many dungeons to build. I just need a little time to recharge my crafting batteries. Crafting in a computer is a way for me to do that. Plus it is all open source, so anyone can print this stuff out or alter it for their own. Craft on!

Wow curufin, amazing work. What type of glue are you using to assemble this stuff? The model glue I use for minis doesn't hold on PLA so I have been using E6000. Unfortunately it takes a long time to assemble using it because it takes so long to dry and harden. Hope you have a better solution.
