Changed the filament twice, with two different spools and having the same problem:
The filament comes out fine on the first layer of the raft (thick ooze), but when it tries to do the next layer with diagonal lines, it oozes/prints with major peaks. I believe it's the extruder stepper noise making this constant click noise as well. By the time it gets to the 3rd diagonal pass, those peaks hardened and the extruder head starts vibrating roughly as it drags over it. At this point I turn the printer off.
Have no idea what's wrong.. I re-leveled the bed even.

Here is a good trouble shooting guide link. Not sure if your problem if your problem is in there or not. I have gotten those clicks during the second layer of raft building. Not sure what the problem is. What speed are you running at? And at what temp?

Looked through troubleshooting guide and I don't see my problem listed.

I'm going to call Monoprice and if they can't help me, return this printer.
I'd like another printer for say under $400 but I doubt one exists. I can't afford $600 for the simple metal one.

The USAFilament/original Monoprice/now Hatchbox filament isn't doing this. I don't have any other advice. Could it be a filament issue? Are you using a new/untested filament like I was?

I had this problem on my printer it was when i got a new filament, my error was caused due to the extruder motor having to much trouble pulling the filament which was caused by exxces friction from too loose of a fitting for the spool on my custom rack

THing is, the same exact thing is happening with two different rolls of new filament. One of the filament rolls is: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017REHJB4and the other is www.ebay.com/itm/131604498034

Here is a photo showing the problem. It just about finished the 2nd pass, which is the thinner diagonal lines of the raft. See all those peaks? Lots of clicking from the stepper motor too. Thinking there might be too much tension? Is there a way to loosen this?

From that picture it looks like your bed is really low. If your extruder is too high then it will just drop the filament. There should be just enough room for the extruder to lay the filament down properly. Even your first layer of the raft isn't adhering properly, you can see it with the lifting on the bottom left corner. The extruder itself is making the clicking noise? Is it the same clicking you hear when you load filament?

Can you get any better pictures from a lower angle parallel to the bed so you can see the extruder tip and the gap between the extruder and the bed? If you aren't high then your extruder shouldn't even be able to clear those high peaks without hitting them and pulling everything off the bed.

Also, I never heard this clicking before until I went to unload the filament last night, that wouldn't come out. Finally got it out by running a print job, stopping it, running unload again, and pulling it out.

Like I said the extruder does in fact hit those peaks on the following pass It vibrates badly. I then turned off.

This is what I mean. You can barely see space below my extruder and it's laying it down damn near perfectly. See what I mean about how it shouldn't even be able to pass over those peaks without hitting them? Yes, you can see in this picture that I am getting a little bit of lift on these tiles but I am printing them with no rafts or brims so it's kinda expected.

If it's the extruder clicking then I would stop everything, unload it again, preheat it, and try reloading it. I had an issue the first time loading the filament but was able to fix it easily by cutting the end of the filament so I had a good end to feed in and reloaded it.

I've reloaded it like six times already.

Here's a video of it

So is the clicking coming from the extruder or is it coming from the spool on the back catching on something as its spinning? My spool used to catch once in a while and that is how it sounded. Right now I am using a spool from monoprice and i have to watch it constantly because it comes unspooled easily and then gets a little bound up. Sounds the same way when it starts catching.
Watching that video though there is definitely something more going. Even that last layer of the base for the raft should not be squiggly like that.

chatting with monoprice support now
he says it looks like it is out of calibration because head runs off plate at the start of the video.
he asked me if I ever calibrated it..
anyways I looke dlast night and see no calibration option in the menu.

I even cut off the filament once like 4 inches long sticking out of top of extruder.. still clicked.

Well it was a good run. But after spending two hours chatting with Monoprice support, they couldn't help me get the problem resolved. So I am returning it -- got the return shipping label and RMA number just now.
First thing that comes to mind that I am gonna miss by not having a 3D printer now, is 5 more prints of that plinth I designed in blender.
