I am running a campaign and my heroes will be up against a Blood mage in the end. I am looking for something that can be a center piece for the blood mages throne room and final battle ground. I thought a fountain was to cliche. Looking for any and all ideas and suggestions.

Gore pits, blood running down channels into a bubbling pit of it. Coagulating on things and quite horrific.

Blood running through pipes, like in sewers. Thats a lot of blood even if you have only one pipe that contiuously spews blood, and your players probably don't really want to know about the source of it... With a different paint scheme, my smelting pit ( here and here, large version here and here) would make a good blood pool. Also, this one would work as well with blood instead of molten metal. The combination of blood (fresh and coagulated) with rusted iron is somewhat disturbing to look at - probably exactly what you want for your bloodmage scenario!

A basin, or several basins, filled to the brim. When the time is right, he casts his proprietary spell, animating them into "water" elementals.

A sacrificial alter with grooves cut into it, centered in a small shallow pool set into the floor.

when you think about it, it all comes back down to fountains... thats the problem with liquids, its hard to make them into something else then pits, basins or pools. what remains is what you can spray on it.
like altars with blood splatters. or like others mentionned anything that is made to transport the blood from point A to B. though scotty made a living room that could be having its own blood vessels in it. with a giant heart in the center. that could make for a good encounter.

I was thinking maybe a lectern over a well or pit of blood. Or have some sort of blood pattern on the floor that slowly fills as the battle wages on.

The blood mages I have read about don't use giant pools of blood - which would result in an even larger volume of dead bodies to deal with. I have only read the details of a few blood mages in passing. Maybe blood-red sigils on the wall and floors? While perhaps not as exciting as a river of blood, there would be no issues related to keeping the blood from coagulating and rotting. If you want an unusual contrast, what about white marble walls with all the blood-red décor?

Skeleton throne, painted red, to look like gore.
