I'm all for saving a buck. The $2 per set dice are just fine. I just bought my group dice for our game. 7 sets for about $15 and they love them. It's just a game. Some people get out of control with their dice. I buy tons of dice but I don't get too concerned with the accuracy with one set over another. I have 2 favorite sets that I play with regularly but will use other dice any time.

Reality is, as long as the dice rolls 2 full 360 on at least 2 axis, the result should be as random as it can get.
this is why dice towers are so good at random. because they force not 2, but 4 360 axis rolls. this is why dice towers are much more random.
as for materials... precision dices were bad back then. they needed to be metal in order to survive harsh treatment. by todays standard. that plastic will hold for quite the abuse before it chips off. of course if you roll them on concrete everytime, they might not hold that well. but we're talking wooden kitchen tables here right !

I'm weird then lol. I have a set of black metal dice...hence the dice tray I built, and I recently acquired, thanks to my loving wife, a large d20 that flashes when you a critical. Went over big at my last game.

dont forget your basement mold and water stains Giggle. No thanks! Just finished the bottom box -- covered with white. Need the reference sheets then I'm done: Great looking recreation of the box. I believe I still have my original box, but it's not quite in that good a shape! I'll have to pull it out of where I've got it safely squirreled away and look at it again. Maybe take a picture of it too!
