I don't know about wood varnish, but you could always try clear nail polish that might do the trick.

Question: What would happen if I put wood varnish over the hot glue saliva? It probably wont adhere very well. With the hot glue being so flexible, the varnish will probably chip off. If you are looking for more of a wet look, you could try mod podge or even just a layer of white glue. As for totally clear hot glue, I'm not sure. Most hot glues seem to be a cloudy clear, I've never encountered a crystal clear one.

Not really, the clearest ones tend to be somewhat cloudy once you use them due to more light refraction off the bubbles that get into the glue when it's run through the glue gun. The clearest of them works best against something rather than on its own which adds the slight cloudy issue.

jennifer , if you are trying to achieve a clear finish on the drool, paint on some Pledge Floor Shine: it is high gloss, flexible, and inexpensive. To answer more directly, Minwax Polyshades urethane will adhere very well to Hot Glue. Both are flexible, and durable. I apply Polyshades urethane stain over Hot Glue quite frequently, as Polyshades urethane stain is, The Dip. Cheers!

Batch painting some skeletons. They are from a cheap set of 20 (six unique) from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Skeleton-Warrior-Piece-Plastic-Figure/dp/B004DK4FO0 . They are quite large but with some work (diagonal cutters & boiling water) I am managing to squeeze them all onto 30mm bases. Was having various problems painting them.. like the wash was staining the base paint I put on. But I discovered a cool trick. The stock pieces are already a nice bone shade so all I wanted was the wash. So I just simply thinned down the Reaper MSP black brush on primer to a wash and voila -- it's sticks fine to the glossy plastic finish; and any dried excess on high surfaces is easily rubbed out with a q-tip. I then fully prime the shields and weapons and any armor with the black brush on primer and paint the appropriate color and highlight. I am going to seal them with scenic cement (water/pva white glue mix).

Got this tall ceramic figurine from the flea market today for a $1. Figured she might make a nice stone statue. But she may be a bit too big.. what do you think? It's a wind up and plays music. Should I paint it and use it or gift it to someone? EDIT: too late, already took the music box chime thingy out and painted her espresso brown (for the base coat) I think I am going to make a scenario where she is in the middle of the board/town and is an extra large construct that comes to life -- and it will take both parties to team up to defeat her before they get to kill each other lol.

Those are the exact same skeletons that came in my True Legends bucket. I used one of those for the corpse on the one scatter piece I made. They look like they are painting up nice, I might have to pull out some and paint them up. They are a bit large for 28mm figures but they would do well for Ogre or maybe even Giant skeletons.
Nice job on them.

I guess the lore of my Frostgrave town will be that the past inhabitants were giants lol. At least they are on the same size base I use for my 25mm miniatures.. i.e. 30mm round base.

One thing you might want to do for her is create a base piece, perhaps just a slightly raised stone platform...and have an additional thing as an insert for the well that lets you have it raised up to look like a deity or the like for a holy/unholy site...

Reaper makes Bones Skeleton figures, as well as Human Skeletons, in 28mm size, with quite a variety. Some are quite affordable, and they are easy to paint. With many of the plastic toy figures, like those Giant Skeletons you have, you can apply either a black, or brown wash, over the natural plastic, without any paint, for the bone portions. Then, as you did, jennifer, just paint the bits which vary from the plastic's color. I started out painting green, and tan, plastic army men figures this way. I just paint the bits which deviate from the plastic's color, then hit them with The Dip, matte coat, and done. I take full advantage of the plastic's color, whenever possible. I have a 28mm set of knight figures, in a bronze colored plastic. Gygax wrote that Bronze Plate Mail is an option, so I decided that my bronze plastic Knights would be Hobgoblins... Gygax wrote in the 1977 AD&D Monster Manual that Hobgoblins are often mistaken for Human reinforcements marching with great discipline, when seen from a distance, as they wear similar armor to Human forces; it is only when they come close enough to see more clearly, that they are identified as the enemy. Since Bronze Plate Mail is less expensive than steel Plate Mail, it seemed a perfect match: they look like Human troops, only wearing Bronze armor (save money; one pip worse AC than steel). I painted their faces orange, with blue noses; I then painted the bits which were not bronze metal, hit them with The Dip, and done! They look Human, until you notice their orange faces, and blue noses. They paint up very quickly. Cheers!

Sotf, someone here made a clear hot glue gelatinus cube, and by clear i literally mean clear, and when we all asked how he did, he said hot glue like everyone else. he said he had found some hot glue that was clear from start to finish.
otherwise i could tell you to use GOOP. that thing is clear and tend to stick pretty well so i think you could make or shape something out of it. but the time to cure is pretty darn long though.

Frostgrave has a White Gorilla in its beastiary. So I was happy to find and purchase this Gorilla at the flea market for 25 cents. It's a nice size -- just about perfect for 25 to 30mm scale. It was pure black plastic and lotta bad mold lines. Cleaned it up a bit and painted it. Here's it for now. Still have to finish up some things on it. But I'm happy with the face and fur -- not the greatest sculpt detail, but happy with paint job at least. I need to work on the fur where it meets the face and make it look more natural -- blending it in. (Side note: I LOVE the flea market. I also got a $100 Villaware Belgian Waffle maker -- with extra deep overflow ridges -- for only $3! Made the best waffles we've ever eaten earlier, with homemade batter.)

Also picked up a snow leopard'ish looking creature and giant rabbit from the flea market. 50 cents for the cat and 25 cents for the rabbit. The leopard is a bit big but I almost don't care. This creatures ears are long and I was wondering if someone could tell me what kind of animal this is supposed to be. I figured I could crop the ears and make it look like a snow leopard but maybe I won't. The rabbit is huge too.. a dire rabbit? Rabbits aren't in the beastiary but this lil' critter seems interesting enough. Was thinking about making it a ghoul.

Thanks. Okay well I guess in my parallel Frostgrave universe, snow leopards are quite large and have elongated ears -- done

I am in need of a "Major Demon" and I couldn't find a good price on one. So I bought this for 25 cents from the flea market, with plans of making her look like a pretty wicked major demon. e.g. larger medium weight chipboard wings attached. Sculpted with hot glue, toilet paper mache if need be, and/or modeling paste. Should be able to make her look pretty cool I'll give her a sword as well. If anyone knows of a good deal on a large major demon for cheap , let me know e.g. a deal comparable to the Hobby Lobby / Michael's $9 dragons (w/ coupon) would be awesome!

I think you are spending too much for too little. Go to Miniature Market, Cool Stuff Inc, or Auggies and check out Pathfinder and D&D Miniatures. THere are tons out there to be had for $2-6 that will fill your needs a lot better. Here are 2 minis I pulled out of my box tonight that will work for me. These will work for Demon and Large Construct. I also have this mini here which will work for a Frostgrave Demon. You can grab this on miniature market for $2.50. You can't really beat that. Find a good handful of minis and that $5 shipping is nothing. www.miniaturemarket.com/pbdd-009.html

They never mention the dimensions (not even reaper mini web site) -- and it annoys me. e.g. The skeleton I got with the reaper paint kit is the size of a tiny gnome - was expecting it to be human sized at 25mm.
