Hi all,
I thought I'd say a quick hello from the UK, and shouts/thanks to DM Scotty, Hankerin Ferinale & Wyloch for the vast sources of ideas and inspiration.
I'm an older gamer with a large gap in between actually playing. When I was (much) younger it was mostly Games Workshop - in the UK for my generation the "gateway" game was MB's Heroquest and GW's tie-in Advanced Heroquest (which eventually became Warhammer Quest I think). This evolved into hybrid Advanced Heroquest/1E Warhammer FRP and then straight-up WFRP, but then I was introduced to D&D - the mid-80s red box et all - by a close friend who went on to share in a love of RPGs, rules, systems, tables, randomly generated dungeons. D&D stuck due to it's relative simplicity, but we also delved into MERP, Rolemaster, Palladium, Cyberpunk...
Then, there was a void, and I became an adult (or thought I had). Boxes of miniatures were lost and games were consigned to an attic to gather dust. I never did find my Advanced Heroquest interlocking tiles. On a few occasions I was drawn back into painting a couple of miniatures (perhaps after an out-of-the-blue Christmas present from a knowing friend), but by an large the interest was fleeting.
After more recently getting back into painting GW stuff, specifically W40K stuff, it felt a little bit, well, aimless. I have absolutely no plans to spend ridiculous amounts of money on 3000 point armies: wargaming was never really as appealing to me as RPGs. But then, discovering all these YouTube channels along with the release of D&D 5E really gave me reason to focus. Hankerin's enthusiasm and "deep thinking" (could be "derp thinking", not sure ;P ) and Scotty's wealth of ideas for cheap models and terrain are both immensely inspiring.
So, I dug out what few fantasy miniatures I had gathering dust in boxes and got stuck in. Now my wife complains about how much cardboard and junk I have in boxes in our "office".
So, enough waffle. I've added some fantasy/D&D stuff to Facebook, whilst all my photos (genre non-specific, photos of games and WIP) tend to just be dumped on Google Photos. Lots of Scotty and Drunkens & Dragons inspired stuff, and I'll admit more time is spent on crafting/modelling/painting than actually gaming these days, but hey ho. It's a much-needed, calming outlet at this point in my life so I plan to do more!
So once again, thanks to everyone in this community who has inspired or informed me. Sh*t, now I feel like I need some kind of sign off.
Strength, honour, and a nice cup of tea?
Cheers, P
