This looks so cool. My group started that tier in the summer, but that was before I started crafting. In fact, this module made me start thinking about something better than drawing on a map board and that made me start looking at pics on the web and that led me to find DM Scotty's site and vids. Makes me want to start all over again

I finished roughing in Tier 3 of the step pyramid. The interesting feature of this level is the Revolving Passage. It is essentially a section of hallway that is on a turntable of sorts. It is controlled by a panel of 8 buttons, each one selects a different direction. I used a HeroClix base and a corresponding cutout to keep the passage spinning true and not binding up. The levels are getting bigger and bigger so I shrunk the hallways a little bit with the hope that this (now) slightly compacted dungeon will fit on the gaming table. ....so I did some looking ahead at the next tier, and it looks like I will be able to reuse a couple rooms. Yay! potentially less work!

I could have used that clix idea when I was making a turntable for my narrow gauge model railroad! Oh well! You live and learn! Edit: My 1000 post! I thought there would be cake or something!

The top of the pyramid is undergoing it's sand treatment. I think it will probably take 2 or 3 treatments because the area is so large. But... in the meantime, here is Tier 1 roughed in: And Tier 2: What are the white blocks that you are using as your walls?

It's dollar store foamcore cut into strips. I peal the paper off of both sides, and after I hot glue it to the cardboard, I make the groves by pressing a sculpting tool into the foamcore.

Great work on the revolving room. The mechanical solution for the rotating hallway is genius. And your tile cutting is so precise. Are you using rulers and pencils to mark up the cardboard for cutting or are you using a different method? Whenever I measure out my tiles I loose a millimeter here and there and it dives me nuts.

Thanks! Tiers 1 and 2 I cut all by hand with a ruler and pencil. Tier 3 I used my tables saw to cut the tiles and strips for the hallways. I had to lay out all of the tiles were they needed to be and then pinned them to a piece of pink foam so they wouldn't move. I then cut all the hallways to fit between the tiles. It is a painstaking way to do it, but these dungeons are getting big and complicated.

I finished roughing in Tier 4. This is a monster of a level in terms of shear size (though nothing compared to the next level). I compressed it a little and removed a few superfluous hallways, but it is still over 5'x5' when it is laid out. It will not fit on the gaming table as a whole dungeon. My own crafting Red Letter Day update: This tier marks the very first time I have ever re-used a tile. All the dungeons I build are from published modules, so every tile I make has a one-time specific use. It's like each dungeon is a puzzle and each tile I create is a piece to that puzzle. I want each puzzle to be complete...so no 'borrowing other puzzle pieces' will do. Well, that is certainly part of it. Another part would be that of the dungeons I have built so far, there haven't been many opportunities to reuse tiles. Many are odd shaped or have doors in the wrong place, or if it is just one single tile that I could fit somewhere else, I might as well just make a new one. I also think I might be a glutton for punishment.... Okay, now that I have blathered on and on... update time. Most of the rooms in B4 are square or rectangle. I was lucky enough to be able to redistribute several rooms from tier 3 down to tier 4.....and I will be able to shuffle rooms from tier 4 down to tier 5. In the end, it will save me the task of making about 12 extra rooms. While the entirety of the step pyramid wont be able to be laid out completely, each individual level will be. And I think I'm okay with that. ...on to tier 5.

Lookin' sharp Those tiles look so easy and quick to make.. I love the idea of it. I'm here cutting 36 one inch square cork tiles for a 6 x 6 base !

Wow! All of this stuff looks great! I especially like the partially buried pyramid and the "spinning room." Great work here and man are you cranking these things out fast! Keep up the good work!

Gorgeous work for a classic adventure. I'm sure teh pyramid would make a great piece of wargaming terrain once it's adventuring life is over.

Gorgeous! Agreed, the Step Pyramid has great use as a terrain piece for wargaming. If you have no further use for it, after the RPG sessions are complete, you could always put it on e-Bay. You might be surprised what it sells for... Just make sure you put a minimum price you would happily part with it for, just in case the bidding does not take off. Be sure to advertise it on appropriate forums, like TheMiniaturesPage.com. Beautiful works! Cheers!
