Good stuff! I have yet to get on Scotty's FB group. He seems to pimp it more than the forums on his vids. Is there alot of spillover between the two or are they effectively separate entities?
Keep up the good work!

saw them at my dollar store like a few months ago, almost bought them, but i'm really paranoid about buying things that will not work as expected. i mean they seem like rubber things and some of the community here have shown how badly rubber stuff works. so that didn't help.
thanks to this video i just might go there and buy me some and try it still...

It's a really cheap project so you can do what I did while planning this out and do one or two test ones first, experiment with other materials too. I'll just say you really want to make them rigid to give the paint a better chance...it will fail if the rubber stretches or bends later.

Keep up the good work! There is a very small amount of spillover, but really it's night and day different. There are 1000's more people posting on the fb group and 100x the daily content. I check the forum every once and a while and it seems like after a week or two there is as much new content on this forum as the fb group has in a few hours. The fb group also has excellent community interaction. It's just so much quicker for most people and is integrated into most people's daily lives already. I really cant recommend the fb group enough, lots of inspiration, and tons of conversation.

but i hate the fast paced style of the FB page, hence why i didn't get on it. i mean just here, i go away for like 8 hours of sleep and i already have like 12 threads to look upon when i return. if there is 100 times that on the facebook page then that means instead of postign and reading for an hour i have to pass like 4 hours there just to stay afloat and that is not going to happen because in the end i will be redoing it again next hour.
there is a point where things gets too big and out of proportion you know. not saying dont go there, just saying... if you ar elike me and not wanting to pass up on many opportunities, i dont think the facebook group is working on that. there is bound to have tons of opportunities missed and if you dont have too much time to invest in that community, i suggest you just start picking up the basics and keep to them.
again im not dissing the facebook group, just mentionning the awefully fast travelling flow there is to it. there are great stuff there just like there is here, but the flow is much much faster then here so dont expect to be able to follow it all the time.

The paint chemical that can melt the styrofoam is oil based (enamel) paints. These contain an oil binder or spirit based liquid (turpentine) which is what causes your foam to melt. You can if you are extremely careful and spray from far enough away, spray it on foam with little to no melting, but basically what is happening is you're paint from far enough away from the surface that the binder has evaporated enough to not melt the foam.
Water (acrylic) based paints don't contain that chemical which is why they don't melt the foam. Check the ingredients in your Minwax spray paint and I think you'll find that it is an water-based paint. Polyruethane paints could also be oil-based or oil-modified water-based, but in general, just the water-based version is what you want.
Oh yeah, water based house paint is usually considered latex paint, which is also safe for foam.

The miniwax stuff isn't water based, it's solvent clean up...but I think they use a different solvent or propellant than other brands that is less reactive. Either way, it works! It also has the added bonus of smelling much less abrasive than the varethane.
