"The Swinging Maiden" (You must be this tall to ride this trap)
The Swinging Maiden appears to be a rectangular stone room trimmed with oak timbers. Off to each side, leaning against the walls appear to be standing sarcophagi. Closer inspection however, reveals them to be iron maidens (run to the hills, run for your life...). In the exact center of the room, on a stone pedestal, rests a glowing crystal ball. Emanating from the crystal ball are tendrils of light that reach out to rocks also resting on stone pedestals, two to a side, four total. These rocks are Loadstones.
If anything, like unwitting players, cuts (breaks) the light connecting any Loadstone with the center crystal, several things happen. First, the iron maidens open creating a wall of spikes. This tips the cleverly balanced room. As the pulsating continues, the room swings to and froe, tossing anything not nailed down into the spikes repeatedly. After a minute, the light tendrils from the crystal ball reconnect with the Loadstones, and their weight is suppressed, returning the room to it's original level state.

Very Cool, but I forsee chipped paint in their future unless they seal them.

Oh my goodness. I was getting ready to flip over your iron maidens...until I saw the swing! That was awesome. If I was in that dungeon, I would have gladly died in that room. Oh, the stories I could tell.

I have a pack of those rubber snakes too. They are really great for decoration.

If there would be a hall of fame in this community where only the very best, a few selected projects would go into, then this would definitely be in it.

Fantastic idea, and well executed!
In play, are you going to just tilt the room and let the minis fall where they may?

Thanks everyone for the kind words. In play, are you going to just tilt the room and let the minis fall where they may? I built this trap pretty much as an experiment to test different methods of construction, and moving parts in a tile. I never really considered actually placing it in a dungeon. When the tile is in front of you, it is fairly obvious that something isn't right with it. You can see that the floor is slightly above the outer ring. It also swings effortlessly, you would have to figure out a way to lock it into position, otherwise the players would see it move when you placed it on the table. I think the tile itself is visually interesting, but it would be hard for players to not meta game it, because they would know that it was a trap. If I did put it in a dungeon, and the players tripped the trap, I would probably just tilt the floor a little bit to show them what is happening, and call for dex/balance checks, reflex saves etc. and then place minis where they get pushed to. If I just swung it, it would be impossible to track damage and no player would be standing. And as others have pointed out, the use of metal minis could potentially result in loss of paint. It may be a neat tile in theory, I'm just not sure about practical applications...

Maybe make a duplicate, with some cheap weights painted up to represent each player (gold palidin/cleric, Red Fighter, Green Ranger, Blue Sorcerer, Black Rogue, etc).
Put the duplicates in the rocking room, and that will tell you where they all landed?

Also, you could make a "normal" room to place on the table. When the trap is sprung say something like "and this happens..." and pull out the real piece. Placing the alternate minis in real room and see them tumble would surely take precedent over recording damage. You would have to make a general eyeball and guestimate. For me, I wouldn't mind if you, as the DM, told me I had taken so many points damage after seeing that. I would be laughing too hard.
Another idea I had, but probably not too practical would be to use the alternate minis, and also apply some red paint on the spikes. If the minis come up with red on them, then they got injured and you can see where. Again, I realize how this could not really work, but it's a fun idea.

Wow! Love ...Love ....Love the snake floor! I'm going to use this trap but will just make a 2.5D tile only version of it with detachable iron maidens. Love the loadstone idea. I see you can get the water putty off walmarts website. Is there a cheaper or better product to use for this? I have zero experience with making molds. I'm assuming you take the Heroscape coffin lid press it into Sculpty clay and pour the "Liquid" into it and wait for it to harden. Any suggestions on what liquid to use?

Durham's Water Putty is available at any hardware store. It's just a form of plaster or hyrostone; it is a powder that you mix with water (though I mix in PVA glue too). The clay is Plasticine Clay (the kind that kids play with and wont dry out), not Sculpey clay. You just press the objects into the clay to make an impression, then pour in the mixed "Liquid" and wait for it to dry. The Durhams water putty I used I mixed very wet and it took 2 days to dry. You could use plaster or resin with the clay.... but Durhams is just a couple of bucks and one can will make lots of casts.

This should seriously be enshrined in a Crafter's Hall of Fame. It still blows me away.
