That is truly exceptional! I'm glad to have a tiny part in it!
I got one of those receipt-tape spools from my eye-doctor's office a few months ago. I'd never have thought to cut it diagonally! That's beautiful, man! *sniff*

Well, that may be how you define it... which is fine. But to me - this is about as close to "scratch" as it gets. Taking things that had a totally unrelated purpose, cutting them apart, reshaping them, etc. Fits for me. fits for me too

Fits for me too!!! If anyone needs any of those tape spools just let me know. I have a ton of them since we use them in the place I cook at.

That totally works for me as well. What I love about Curufin's work is that if you don't know what you are looking at (while looking at the final stage), you really have no idea what he put into it. I have a friend who is a Star Wars junkie and I showed him the first build on this thread and we had to look at the pics going back and forth until you slowly go "oh, I see where that part came from". Total creativity. I do wish I had half of what Curufin has but I don't, but I do get to enjoy the pics, so that works for me

For me, these sci-fi builds are like putting together a puzzle...only I have no idea how many pieces there are and there is no picture on the box to look at. I just dump out a bits box and turn each piece over in my hands and then try to make it 'fit' with another piece. If it doesn't 'fit' I put it down and pick up an new piece... just rinse and repeat. After a few pieces fit together in a certain way, it's like seeing the picture on the box for the first time...oh, it a kitten playing with a ball of string. Then I just try to find the string to add.

If you want to play johnp's "Name that part" minigame DO NOT scroll past the 7th picture!!! (Hint: There are 8 individual pieces, though some may be duplicates)
MecetTech Light-Foil Racing Speeder The Light-Foil Racing Speeder is the sixth, and most resent speeder to be developed by MecetTech, a subsidiary of TamCo, a megacorp owned my House Mecetti of the Tapani Sector. This is one of the fastest Racing speeders on the market today. It's sleek design and enclosed canopy, along with the retooled (and renamed) Thrust-6 repulsorlift engine, the Light-foil can reach speeds of nearly 550kph. However, due do such small directional wings and no yaw repulsors, the Light-Foil becomes extremely uncontrollable near top speeds. TamCo is under investigation after a speeder crash resulting in the deaths of two young nobles of House Reena... _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Walkthrough: The bulk is made up from this Dollar Tree laser pistol. Just cut off the hand grip and pull the guts. I hot glued on a small section of this split hose, that I got from tauster, to the back of the pistol. Sci-fi micro machines are perfect for these speeder builds. I made up some silicone/cornstarch molds and made some hot glue casts. Keep in mind that these speeder builds are for me and my table and not for any type of resale. Ah, yes....more of these space ships... I just cut a few pieces off of them. My super glue has become too thick to squeeze out of the nozzle, so I turned to E6000. I forgot how great the stuff is. I glued on the hot glue casts (I added a few pins just to help align everything while it dried. More pins and E6000 to glue on the wings and front piece. Paint to taste.... then enter a street race for pink slips.

Beautiful work as always.
I've pondered using those cheap ray guns as cockpits... but don't get to do enough scifi gaming to justify the labor.

So amazing, Curufin. What a badass paintjob. I'm sure one of those would make a great escape vehicle. Supercool design and I'm so glad you did not sacrifice that Tantive IV in the making:-) In the minigame I only recognized the front as one of those small ships I have. But I wasn't certain. Thought it could be from the Eclipse Boardgame also. Thanks for letting me play. Next time, next Exalt...

FriTek 01-Skywarp racing swoop. The 01-Skywarp comes from the mind of famed swoop racing champion, Valin Fri. Valin only knew swoop racing, so when he retired, he quickly realized that he needed to somehow stay in the game. He decided to created an elite swoop bike manufacturing company. Valin burned though almost all of his winnings securing a facility, a company name and licence (FriTek), a few hands, and 2,871 discontinued Byblos Drive Yards M-17 ore hauler engines. He set out to convert the M-17 into the largest swoop bike engine ever. Valin was a gifted swoop pilot, but unfortunately, he was a lousy engineer. He removed 2 of 3 coolant housings from the engine to make room for a second power core, rerouted the alpha stabilizer, and terminated the engine's auto cut-off safety feature. But in the end, Valin Fri did accomplish what he set out to do. He created a swoop bike capable of generating 1.4 times the thrust of any other swoop bike in it's class. Fresh off line, with a swoop champion behind it and it's new tag line "There one second, gone the next", the 01-Skywarp nearly sold out. However, after a few races, one thing became crystal clear: very few Skywarps could make it through their second lap of a race without exploding. FriTek went out of business shortly after, and Valin disappeared. The 01-Skywarps pop up now and then in low ranking swoop races around the galaxy, usually piloted by rookies. For some strange reason, races that feature a Skywarp on the ticket always sell out. And the crowd can be heard chanting "There one second, gone the next!" The bulk of this build are weird parts from my local Learning from Scratch store. I dont know what most of it is: a couple of black half-circle shapes, a blue thing with fantastic texture, some clear pipe pieces, 4 PVA glue tops, a silicone/cornstach mold of the inside of the black half-circles. Not pictured: another sci-fi micromachine and a seat from a sci-fi model. I made some hot glue casts to join the clear pipes and the black half-circles. I forgot to take pictures for a couple of steps. I glued the two black halves together. Glued on a blue piece to each side. I made silicone/cornstarch molds and hot glue casts of the micromachine and the seat. The micromachine got cut into quarters (I only used the front two pieces) and glued on along with the seat. Two paper clips got glued to the front for the handle bars. I cut the tops off the PVA glue caps and threaded them into the clear pipes. The orange pieces are from the very same printer cartridge I used way back in the very first post of this thread (Hellcat swoop). Painted and I added a HeroClix flying base to the bottom. A single Bothan died to bring us this HoloVid (and that was a slip-and-fall accident).

How the hell did I miss two different speeders??? These are terrific!!! The FriTek 01-Skywarp is such a cool shape that it screams speed. By the way, the not pictured sci-fi vehicle is a Narn Fighter from Babylon 5. (One of my favorite television shows ever.) The MecetTech Light-Foil is uber-awesome as well. I'd go on at length about how cool this is, but I'm running late for my Pathfinder game as it is. Suffice it to say, Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did I miss this? Yet another fantastic speeder, and I miss it by half a month. I love the lines of this thing. Looks like a perfect addition to a street scene.
Thank you Voodoo for bringing it back to the top of the recent posts list.
