Lol, twisted brain cells come up with an idea. Sort of inspired by the Insider Trader and CraftWar threads.....
Might be fun to have a contest along the line of the mystery ingredient in the Iron Chef show. Take a household or trash item that most of us might have laying around the house and see what can be made out of it.... with very few rules other than you need to use that particular item..... I'm brain farting at the moment trying to think of something.... Say like an empty pill bottle (vitamin or prescription).

I like that! I had a very similar idea when I started my Flotsam and Jetsam thread (see the initial posting there) - There's tons of cool stuff out there that I want to keep but haven't come up with ideas yet, so I asked other users to join in a continuous brainstorming session. Somehow the thread developed in a different direction, but I'd be happy if this time we succeed.

I like the idea. I remember seeing something similar on Starshipmodeler.com
The members would send a package of random parts to each other then build a kitbashed creation. I really enjoyed some of the things people came up with.

It's a great idea. DMG, Scotty, AJ and I briefly talked about a similar idea on a Crafters Tavern episode.... though it may have been after the episode. DMG thought that it could run in between craftwars, with a short build time.... maybe a week. One person puts the materials list together:
One piece of single corrugation cardboard X big One piece of card stock X big One piece of string X long 15 craft sticks 10 matchsticks 4 beads Glue sticks and/or PVA glue 4 sticks of hot glue
....and let the ideas fly!
I love the craft wars because I get to see variations on a single theme. I think the reverse could also be true: variations on the same starting equipment. I also love the name: Iron Crafter!

Lots of fun i tell you.... they used to do that on the 3.5 forums for characters. they were giving a class, and you needed to create a charcater with that class involved. looking at them, i never played, they werre awesome characters.
so im definitely happy to see this here if it gets done.

Switching up every time between a "free build" and a have to only use what is on the list would add an extra level to it.
I do like seeing the stuff build on the CraftWars Contests, but wouldn't fit into most of the stuff I play. Keeping the genre open but restricting what you can use or having to use a certain part will make things open to other genres.
Having a shorter build time, hmm. Not sure if that is a good or bad idea. But I do like the idea of going from a month to maybe two weeks. Maybe have it twice a month? Combine the Mystery Part and Parts List ideas.... Say the 1st through the 15th be the Mystery Part open build and the 15th through the 30th be the have to stick to the list build?

It should be 1 item rather than a list. To keep it simple. It could be incorportated into CraftWar as a 4th division... IRonCrafter Item The winner gets to pick the next generic household item. The only real stipulation is that it should be something that would conceivable be found in most households.
When Curufin, DmScotty AJ and I discussed it we talked about a live "CraftOff" where the contestants had a set amount of time to use objects to create items. Each contestant would have to have only a set quantity of material, decided before hand, and then when the show starts they are given the objects they need to make and have 30 minutes to complete them.

So I guess the next question would be how do we go about organizing this?
