As I said, I was inspired by DMScotty to make some stalagmites and afterward decided to make a Roper. Here is the first one I made. I really like how it turned out (all except for the teeth... still working on the needle-like teeth). The second one I made didn't turn out as good as this one but I was bored and started messing around with it and wound up rushing that one. It had the teeth I was going for tho (I used toothpicks for the second one's teeth).

I have found that small, pointy (wedge-like) stones look much better than toothpicks, at least for me. That's what I used for Mother's main maw...

Here's the second one I made with the menacing maw of razor teeth... These were inspired by the newer roper artwork rather than the older pillar-looking art from the Monster Manual. and this

Are the roper's tentacles fixed or can you take them off?
If you make them removable, the miniature is a lot easier to store. I regularly use small neodym magnets and metal scraps from cutting screw-caps into small (5x5 mm) pieces to make stuff removable. Another advantage is that you could use the tentacles elswewhere, for example on small bases as templates for tentacle spells.

I agree, magnets make like a lot easier with storage and interchangeability with miniatures. I used to routinely magnetize my gw minis to get more mileage of them and to save some money.
The roper and slimes look awesome.

These I made with the tentacles attached so I could have them hold PCs. At the moment I have all my mini's on a shelf for easy access/display.
I do like the magnet idea, esp for use as a Black Tentacles spell or to mix and match them.
I had originally thought to use string (or something) to simulate the roper's 50 foot reach with its tentacles and have it drag PCs through the dungeon...
I may have to make some Black Tentacles tho.

I would certainly advise folks to add both tentacles and vines to their collection, they have a wide range of uses and add a lot to game play. Free standing object/trap/monster bits like that can turn a dull encounter into a tactically hair raising encounter in mere seconds, they force or restrict movement, block line of sight, provide flanking options for your critters and provide additional targets for players to hack down.

Great timing. I had seen this post in the past and was just now getting ready to work on some oozes. This update kept me from searching for it. Great stuff guys.

the green cube is great looking. but i hate to say it but... the green in the monster manual is just so you can see it. the gelatinus cube as always been near invisible and transparent. but as mentionned i still like th edsign and the green does give it a good looking color still.

The green does look good...might work (for those thinking of making one) to use the green hot glue rather than the normal varieties to give it more of the clear look. Or perhaps buying one of the cheap plastic "stained glass" kits a lot of craft project isles in Walmart or similar stored have

Maybe the cube just ate a green slime? Or a goblin?
