A system I've adapted from someone else (their was 12 steps of complication) I combined with my Super-Hero Plot Generator, People-Places-Things.
In People-Places-Things, at the end of each session you ask the players to submit a Person, a Place, and a Thing. The DM then reads them aloud and everyone votes for their favorites. Most votes for each category are used by the GM to plan out an up and coming adventure.
The Magic The Gathering Card Trick I created adaping the super-complicated plan and breeding it with mine goes like this:
1 Pile of Basic Lands (Forest, Mountain, Plains, Island, Swamp)
1 Pile Non-Basic Lands with Names (Vault of Whispers, Ancient Ruins, etc)
1 Pile of Non-Legendary Creature Cards
1 Pile of Legendary Creature Cards
1 Pile of Non-Legendary Artifacts
1 Pile of Legendary Artifacts
Here we go:
Step One: Draw Five Basic Lands. Set Lay the out in order of drawing. For our sample, lets go with Swamp, Swamp, Plains, Mountain, Mountain
Step Two: Draw out Two Legendary Land Cards. Place the first one on the last pile, and the second one on the second pile. For our examples lets go with Hall of the Bandit Lord, and Shivan Gorge. So the Shivan Gorge would go on the second Swamp, while the Hall of the Bandit Lord would go on the Last Swamp.
Step Three: Draw 1 non-legendary creature for each pile. So lets say we wind up with Bog Wraith, Wall of Frost, Boggard Assasin, Alpha Tyranex, and a Sengir Vampire. So that means The first Swamp Encounter would be against a Bog Wraith, the second would be a Wall of Frost (which means a spellcaster), meet a Boggard Assassin in the Plains, fight an Alpha Tyranex in the Mountain, and deal with a Vampire in the Last Swamp.
Step Four: Draw the Legendary Creature and put him in the last pile. For our example we have Maraxus of Keld. He will be the big-bad.
Step Five: Draw 5 Non-Legendary Artifacts and One Legendary. Place the non-legendary artifacts on each pile, and the legendary one should be in the Legendary Creature's inventory.
Step Six, put it together.
So the heroes much journey for 2 days through swamps, fighting Bog Wraiths on the first day (so DnD Monster, Wraith). On the second day they are ambushed at the Shivan Gorge (a river of lava pouring down from a nearby volcano) by a wizard who uses Wall of Frost and Animate Object to make the wall attack. Day Three they reach the plains and are ambushed by a Boggard (Bugbear?) Assassin leading a small warband. Day Four is spent fleeing an Alpha Tyranex (DnD T-Rex). On the fifth Day they reach another Swamp (which we will convert into a Tarpit since they were in the mountains) where they must enter the HAll of the Bandit Lord, who is a Fighter Named Maraxus of Keld and has a Pet Vampire gifted to him by Sengir.
At the end of each day is a chance to win one of the artifacts (treasures).
And there ya go.
