Managed to get some decent dollar store finds. The one dino had such a thick layer of paint on it that it was hiding some of the texture of the plastic. Using the ideas folks here have presented I used the good old fashioned nail polish remover. Speaking of which the g/f and me are going to be going in on a gallon of the acetone instead of each getting a small bottle (her for her nails and me for being crafty).
I got a close up of how badly the seams are on the one dino. The flashing can be handled with a file and/or razor knife.... Any clues what might be good for filling in the wide seams on the buggers?
G/f's background with the haunted house helps for a good deal of crafting stuff as well. Lot of the prop stuff there can be tweaked and applied to the craft.
this is one of the wide gaps/seams. Few ideas I had were a thin coat of chaulking just in the seam (but not sure how long that would last). Maybe some hot glue applied with a tooth pick?
I've seen other people get the same or similar bug packs. Hopefully I can do some justice to the paint jobs that I have seen here. Getting 6 for $1 beats the heck out of the price you'd pay at a game store for minis. And at that price if you mess some up with acetone, heat, or trying to "get creative" it's not like you're out $5 a peice.
The textures on these guys are gonna be pretty cool with a new paint job. I always like my dinos and big lizard colored like tropical fish and coral snakes.
I posted on facebook about having a birthday party to go to tonight (holding off on my casting experiment for a few days).
I stripped the paint off the bugs, have them primed with some spray paint. I might do one or two more tried with the dino stuff to get more paint off. I forgot to bring my caulk with me but might use the white glue and powder that someone suggested.
I did get a bunch of the HeroClix stripped, plus I picked up a bunch more. Some people swear by priming them other say don't bother.... not sure what I will do there.
DERP... yeah got a bag of zombies that are a bit shorter than normal minis but thinking of painting a few up. 100 of them in the bag, even being smaller sized they would still work really good for minions
I was at the Dollar Tree last night and saw these figures and that tree as well. I had already found the stuff I was looking for and had to make another stop at Walmart or I would have scooped up a couple bags. They also have these glow in the dark reptiles and dinos which are about the right size. I shall call that a recon mission
erho: I will once again rise above Lurker status if I ever get back to painting, Real life work transitions... Adulting

sgtslag: Still unpacking after moving in October... Too much stuff, crafting materials are mostly still in boxes. Weekends are busy with life, so little progress made. Getting the urge to push through, though, soon. I have several projects waiting...

sgtslag: Started working on making hills, which match my Tee-Time carpet I use for my "grass mat," on my gaming table, for big battles. Got two long chunks of open-cell foam, from a friend. Used my Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter to make terrain hills out of them.
Jul 26, 2020 20:12:40 GMT
sgtslag: Came up with around 80 hills. Covering them with the same carpet, from scraps. They will match the tabletop, perfectly. Contact Cement, is my friend. Will post on it, when I get the pictures uploaded. Some prototypes done, as proof-of-concept...

randywest: does anyone know more manufacturers for 1/72 fantasy minis besides Dark Alliance, Caesar and Elhiem?
Sept 14, 2020 14:16:19 GMT
sgtslag: 50 Hills completed, 24 left to cover the sides on. Hoping to finish this project within the week. Then I'll post a build description. For war gaming, but it can cross over to RPG sessions... They match the ground 'cloth', perfectly.
Sept 19, 2020 19:03:09 GMT
sgtslag: Sorry, randywest, the listed makers are the only ones I know.

sgtslag: Ran out of Hot Glue, with only five hills left to add a skirt to the sides of. Wal-Mart closes at 8:00 PM, thanks to COVID. GRRRrrr! Another 30 minutes of work, and I would have been done: ~77 hills, modular, perfectly matching my table's ground cloth!

sgtslag: Will post a write-up soon, or after next week's vacation. Cheers!

sgtslag: Hoping to acquire a Chop Saw within the next two weeks. Then I will cut up MDF into triangles, to form the skeleton of my d20 fantasy world globe... Posting will follow, with how-to guide. Cheers!
