Hey everybody, thought I would go ahead and throw up this sci-fi piece that I'm almost finished with.
Thx to a couple of sci-fi terrain posters here, I also had to give it a go
So thx for the motivation peeps
It all started with a friend of mine giving me a cardboard insert that a HDD was in, lol the rest, is as we say, crafting history
So here's a couple shots in her incomplete mode lol soooooo, any brilliant crafting minds out there have any suggestions...please shout out
My thoughts starting this, was to make it as modular as possible, that's why the center comes out, so it could be a factory, starship repair docking bay, bunker, I have the removable shield generator, the blue ring on that piece is also removable. The comms dish, that lights up, I have a sub-orbital phase canon that I want to build but I'm still trying to decide on the design. I also want to build some of AJs cool control panels for inside, if I use it as a shield generator...

Thanks everyone
Yeah, I guess I'd be lying if I said it wasn't partially Star Wars inspired, but most of my motivation to build it came from Shinobi (thx man )
Plus I really want to start messing with Corvus Belli's Infinity game, so I needed some scifi stuff
ne-ways, thought mayhaps I might get a few suggestions for completion of the model, ne-1 ? Ideas?

I don't think you have much to finish. Instead you now need to make some more buildings to go next to it.
Only thing I can think of is making a 2.5D tile that could fit underneath it, so the players can go inside. This won't be an issue for Infinity, but if you're playing an RPG, like Star Wars for instance, the players will try to go inside. That's what they do.

Awesome job! You put tons and tons of detail in there. I can see a wooden spool cut in half, but could you tell us what some of the other detail items are? Stellar job!

Awesome idea, those pesky players , more buildings, great plan, not sure about the tile tho' I was thinking when in shield generator mode...lol (say pictures # 6 and 7 counted down from the top) that's my idea of generator mode, that's when its like a room, and the top can be removed for that, curious band of pesky players...otherwise its just an open bay, the control tower is really only designed to be a little control room. the tile would be big enough to to fit one or two minis on, that's it.

Well I sure can or at least try...might be easier for me to just post a vid...ehh maybe not
So I'll try to answer the questions of what's, what based on what I would ask.
Counting down the pictures from the top, first pic, I would want to know what is on the back wall, and how did I do it? Ok, this is my version of a view screen, printed on paper cut and paste
kk, lots of Styrofoam in the build, woodies bits, like small dowels, the spools as you already identified, little block in the front left of picture #1
Fan blades in the round vodka bottle caps came from AC Moore(craft store) in pictures 2 and four
Hand rails were cut off a weird little plastic container I found, someone was pitching, Shinobi got all the rest of the rails I had, via his surprise package
Lots of the little random rectangles I glued everywhere were weights from a pinewood derby car kit
The radar dish shown in the last few pictures was made from the lid of a walkers shortbread cookies container
The little control screen just to the right of the door in picture #12 is a dust cover/protector from an old monitor cable connector
same picture all little further two the right, is a square with blue rectangles in it(weights) there is a piece of an old model I bashed
and last but not least, the light up posts in the middle of the radar dish, it was made from the plastic card holders used when sending flowers
I could go on here for a awhile, if there's something I didn't get to, let me know bud, but, I think I answered all the things that I would have been curious about
