Today I present to you how to make muh keg! I have to give DMG credit because he is
the one that inspired me to make my keg. I eyeballed his keg and this is what I came
up with. Bare with me on this, its my first tutorial...
1. What you will need
1 x Hot glue Gun (glue sticks!)
1 x Pencil
1 x Scissors
1 x Ruler
Barrel
11 x 2" Craft sticks (Pop sickle sticks)
2 x 2" Match sticks
3 x Full Craft Sticks
1 x Mt Dew Lid
Base
2 x 2" Craft Sticks
2 x 1 1/2" Craft sticks
6 x 1 1/2" Match Sticks
Spigot
2 x 1/2cm Match Sticks
1 x Round tooth pick end (eye it)
1 x 1cm Match sticks
1 x craft stick end (eye it)
Iron Straps
1 x Leather lace
After gathering all your materials glue your three full craft sticks together,
then take your Mt Dew cap flip it upside down and use the smaller end to
trace two circles on the glued sticks, then flip the cap over and trace a larger
circle in the middle of the two, this will server as your barrel caps and
the bigger will be the center of the barrel as you glue the planks on.
2. Cutting
Using a pair of scissors you now take 11 of your 2" sticks and taper the ends,
save the little shavings you will need them later! After that with scissors carefully
cut your barrel lids and center out, I had to glue mine back together because it
is almost impossible for them not to shatter, but this is okay because it makes it look
a little more worn.
3. Bending
Take your 11 planks as shown, this is hard so be careful not to snap them in half, (I did.... a lot)
Splintering is fine adds to the effect.
4. Gluing 1
Now its time to glue it together as shown.
5. Gluing 2
Choose what side you want to be the top and glue the planks evenly on both sides of your
top plank till you get to the bottom,(Example: LIKE A CLOCK 11,1,10,2,9,3 and so on ) then add your 2 x 2" match sticks as show, this will
be the bottom of the barrel.
6. Gluing/clean up
Using the slivers we saved we can fill in the gaps using hot glue, I then used a box cutting
knife (BE CAREFUL) to clean up the wisps and excess glue.
7. Spigot
(Refer to pictures!)
Take your 1cm match stick, and glue it to the craft stick end long ways, then glue the 1/2cm match
stick below that, then the tooth pick end to it, then the last 1/2cm to the top of the other 1/2cm match stick.
Then glue it to what ever side you want to be the front of your barrel.
8. Legs
Using the 4 x 1 1/2" match sticks and 2 x 1 1/12" craft sticks make 2 legs as shown in picture 8.
9. Base
Using your 2 x 2" planks bend them slightly to simulate the weight the barrel would have on the base.
Then glue them to them to the legs as shown in picture 9.
10. Scotching
Its now time to glue the barrel to the base and scotch it with 2 x 1 1/2" match sticks.
11. Iron bands
You can use whatever you like for the bands but I took a leather lace and cut it down the
middle to get 2 laces, and hot-glued them around the barrel and trimmed as needed.
12. Paint
Well.... paint it! I used DMG's method of painting.
