Near the Western shore of the Great Swamp of Gwahr are the famed or infamous, depending on one's perspective, lie the Isles of Langerhans...a small grouping of islets inhabited by a Sisterhood of Witches. The nearby Shanty Town is under the sway of Mother Josephine, the Covens Guiding Light & indisputable Leader. SO here are some rather poor photos of the Swamp & it's Isles: An Overview: ...in the back left hand corner is the Isle of the Three Sisters, whether the name refers to the three Witches residing there or the three huge Mushroom abodes is unknown. To the right of Three Sisters is Stoned Hedge, a circle of petrified, in more was than one, Ancient Sentient Trees sacred to the Witches & their Goblin Associates...the Isle also features a lively drinking establishment & gift shop. Below Stoned Hedge Isle is a tiny islet dubbed The Piranha Club. To its left is Crazy Mary's Cay, provider of Lust Potion No. 9. It in turn is connected by a dead tree bridge to Oozy Susie's home Isle, which is just below Frag's Sacred Rock Bar & Grill. Now for some closeups, Stoned Hedge: Crazy Mary's Cay: ...with Crazy Mary Herself: The Three Sisters: ... AND a general walk about: ...in the interest of not overflowing the page & a sanity break, I'll continue with a few more photos momentarily.

Fantastic work once again. I don't think I'd noticed the fine woodwork before. The nail heads in one of the ladders is a really nice detail.

Didn't catch the second batch till you pointed them out DeafNala. I love the sign with the tentacle wrapped around it. You have some really, really good photos in this batch. The shot with the purple candles sticks out as being especially great. It might just be the lighting, because all your work is amazing.

Thank you, one & all for your kind replies. With Spring Fever at, well, fever pitch, the motivation you've given me is even more appreciated than normal. I'll try to get the Shanty Town photos up early tomorrow. If my brain starts working, I'll have Mother Josephine show you around. She was a gift from an Australian Guy over on Lead Adventure Forum. Although the Old Girl may not be state of the art, she has an undeniable charm all her own. Alexis: the Faerie Tale comes pretty close to what I'm going for...well maybe a Post Apocalypse Faerie Tale; I have a Rapunzel's Twisted Tower under way & plans for Snow White, Crime Lord. Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, & Henson/Burton/Froud references have also been suggested...I'm easily influenced.

A brilliant mix of fairytale and nightmare! I like how you've arranged the abundance of detail without cluttering things up. Also, the dark wooden platforms and ladders make for an excellent, sober contrast to the riot of colour around them.
And gotta love the tentacles!

Thanks for all the motivating feedback, Guys! beerfrog: I guess those creations that I've come to love have shaped the things I create myself. I'm glad you are enjoying it all. stroezie: Now that I can relate with; lately I see something that I really like & should comment on, & my mind, such as it is, goes totally blank. Seeing I've had that effect on you is quite an eloquent compliment. muadmouse: I LOVE your Avatar... VERY COOL!I'm glad you don't think I over did it. Knowing when to stop is one of those things that I've found is very hard to judge with my own work...it's like proof reading your own text. AND I think tentacles are the perfect accent for a creepy feel too. halloweenville: I'm glad you like it. The details are really what make a Terrain piece come to life ...that brings up something I was going to post about the next series of photos for the Swamp & Shacks.I went looking for some photos I took of the Piranha Boys of Piranha Club fame(?). In the process, I found some detailed shots of the different Isles before they were glued down to the Swamp board, but were otherwise finished. SO I figure I'll add them to the thread if you all don't mind too much. AND here are the Piranha Boys: The gang hanging out by the Club: AND individual shots of the Boy including a rare photo of on with the Legendary MerPig: The Piranha Boys are from Four A Miniatures. They are a delight to paint.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Howdy, Every time I see your work I get this image of a musical number busting out a-la H.R. Puffinstuf. Kev! Thanks, Kev! I get a kick out of the different reactions Folk get from my stuff...there were a fair number of nightmares mixed in with the laughter. I admit I was unfamiliar with H.R Pufnstuf. SO I looked it up. ...that does look like something I cooked up. GOOD CALL!
