Has anyone recently come across any purple, red or orange coloured "grass" type flocking to use for miniature basing? I am trying to figure out a way to do my "Underdark" bases that aren't just grey with grey rubble... I'm looking for something to give them a splash of colour that would mimic the mosses and fungi that would likely be found in an underground fantasy cave type setting...
Any thoughts, links or ideas would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

Homemade flocking: sawdust and watered down paint. I made an attempt with this but it sadly did not have results I was happy with... great start though, thank you!

I made some homemade flock over the summer and was real happy with the way it came out. I did some flock for fall foliage as well (red/orange/yellow) and am sure purple would work quite well also.

My old movie theatre had a red sawdust-like compound that is meant to be sprinkled on vomit and then vacuumed up. Ask nicely at a restaurant or somewhere like that (during a slow period!) and they may provide.

Thanks all... great suggestions... Not sure about the nail stuff....looks like it would be good but coming out of China and all.... I've ordered several times from chinese ebay sellers, and so far hadn't any serious problems with the shipment arriving here in Germany. Prices are extremely low* and if you can wait for a few weeks for the stuff to arrive, that's OK. * You'll get many crafting materials that cost several euros for a few cents instead, and that regularly. My guess is that this stuff is either manufactured by paying wages that border on slavery or production involves massive externalities like government subsidies (which I can live with) and most probably massive ecological damages. The latter is is the main reason why I try to limit myself ebay purchases from China: I don't want to be responsible for destroying nature, neither in my backyard nor on the other side of the globe. Of course I know that many of the stuff I buy in German stores comes from China as well, but that's just how it is...

If you have some moss, sawdust, bread crumbs, etc.. soak them in an ink wash and let them dry thoroughly, then put the chunk into a blender.. should work ok. Also, look at laundry powder and other such stuff, they come in all sorts of pinks and blues and such, plus they are very cheap and smell super fresh!
