Hey all, I've been seriously mulling (is that possible?) hosting and setting up a Craft Con in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for us Craftaholics. See the poll. Give me your feedback. PM me if you'd be interested in forming an event team.

Good idea, but I think you'll only get people from your area showing up, unfortunately!

I do want to do this but I was thinking of doing group chats like Skype or Google hangouts.

Me and my family are going to the States one day, and if the CrafCon is there... Sure I'll be there

Maybe we should have it in Dayton so Scotty can go.

I am liking the idea of a google hangout type of thing, as this is a world wide forum and its a long way from New Zealand to the states! Otherwise you are all welcome to come over for a BBQ and some beer

In an ideal world, a craftcon would be fantastic; nothing beats face-to-face interaction and actually seeing people's work set up before you. But logistics and money make it impossible for most people, so I really like dmscotty's suggestion. I would certainly try to participate (as long as my pesky job and family didn't get in the way of my new true love. . .)

I would suggest running it as an event, at an existing convention: there are several annual conventions, in the TC area, including Con of the North, and the quarterly events, whose name I forget -- sorry. The quarterly events are small turnout, but very loosely organized (both good, and bad), and would be a great place to start. Make sure you advertise beforehand, and please, please, put a schedule in your entry for the quarterly events. The majority of events he hosts, never say when they start, or how many players the GM's are looking for -- this all puts people off of the whole convention, as you have no idea when events will start, or end!
It may take some time for your event to catch on, but if you properly advertise, and bring enough supplies for interested folks to sit down, and dive in, it could become quite an attraction (cost of supplies would be minimal -- think of it as a paint-n-take event for participants, and advertise it as such). I would suggest including a blog site, in the ad, to show off the possibilities, as well as offering some specific projects, to get people interested in attending. The more you advertise, the better; the more organized you are, the better.
By the way, I would make the trek up from Rochester, to attend. I would love to see this quarterly convention grow, and become better organized. I am working on a three-part series of BattleSystem Skirmish games (2nd Ed. AD&D lite, more miniatures gaming, with a thin veneer of RPG on top) to run up there, but I am not finished with the terrain pieces -- shooting for Spring of 2014. Cheers!

People seemed to enjoy the "sort of" bed challenge DMScotty unwittingly started. How about CraftWar (yes a play on warcraft). Someone lays down a challenge and everyone gets in on the act. 1 a month...? Then AJ sets up a poll to determine the people's choice... oh and AJ here's a small envelope filled with cash under the table with your name on it...

World of CraftWar? haha Some friendly forum competition would be amazing...

Just a suggestion from a Noob - but instead of an entire Con, how about a booth at Gary Con 2014? It's in the Minneapolis area.

I think someone once said in making an online version, broadcast on video! Is this possible? The journey from Brazil to USA takes a little bit! :-)
