Howdy, Have you ever thought of splashing the tiles with a bit of more or less arbitrary color? I have. I like the look with the increased variation, but did not go the extra mile on these particular tiles...yet. Here is a shot of some test pieces I did of walls and floors with the light and dark brown, green, and yellowish stones/bricks... Click through for a closer look... I agree with you, Kev! P.S. Yes, it they derive from DM Scotty's 2.5d next "Stamp" technique. I just like the stamp as is, instead of stamping with it. So, cut the tiles from the foam. Peel one side(the eventual bottom.) Cut and glue the lower "walls" on. cut and glue a stiffener, I used corrugated plastic political sign material filled with play sand and sealed with hot glue. The stairs have HDF as a stiffener instead. Peel the other side(top). Cut and glue the upper "walls". Carve the stones into the foam. Carve the walls like stacked stones/bricks. Roll a jagged rock all over it pressing firmly to get the texture. Carefully on the walls. Finally I glued the paper I previously peeled from one side back onto the bottom. Paint. K!

Kev, these walls and flagstone floors you painted are among the best I've ever seen. If you do more of them, please post a step by step tutorial with pics! :-)

I really like the style of your stuff. Would love to see more pictures. When I return to DMing I am planning to go with less mega dungeon and more hex crawl so I want lots of mini (1 session) dungeon/crypts. After seeing this video I think I know what my first project will be. Just seeing it got me in the mood for a nice small undead infested crypt. Excellent work.

can you paint minis with the cheapo craft paints? I know specialized paints are better and they have better pigments, but can you use the cheapo stuff? Thanks in advance. I got into the reaper kickstarter and I'm going to teach myself to paint. Yes I have seen a lot of the tutorial vids for painting and I'm still watching more. Y'all got me excited about painting minis.

Howdy, can you paint minis with the cheapo craft paints? Yes you can voodoo . I do. I bought a gallon of flat black outdoor acrylic from home depot to Bomb Everything With Black, Cheapest Craft acrylics I can find from Michaels. I mix colors as I need them from the primary and secondary hues. Black and white, of course. Red, green and blue. Burnt sienna, raw sienna, and yellow ochre. I do have some reaper metalics, and others I picked up in their discount bin. I do a lot of damp brushing, and have not got the knack for full coverage painting yet. Just try different things! The worst day painting mini's is better than the best day working, Kev!

The worst day painting mini's is better than the best day working, Kev! Thanks Kev! My first paint job was ye old purple worm. (also my first vid I watched and first craft I did) I tried taking pics but the pics show the purp worm as uber bright purple which it is not. The paint job is super basic and less than stellar, but it peaked my interest in painting. I can't wait for the reapers! please keep painting more stuff and showing us. Thanks!

I really dig your wooden doors with the iron trim. Can you explain how you made the trimmings?
