My students have exposure to RPG crafts through my copious boxes of guff I keep in my classroom for lunchtime games. Imagine my surprise when a new student (aged 8) appeared one morning toting these... StudentCraftHe had made the lot in one evening just by eyeballing my stuff, though some (like the circle room and the stairs) were originals. Unfortunately they are made with cellulose tape. I tried to direct him to the DMScotty vids, but apparently his home internet connection is dodgy or something. To me, much better than bringing the teacher an apple!

Way to to go, Teach! That child will do great things -- in miniature, and beyond. Keep up the great work with the children who will decide our future for us... Cheers!

It's sad to say, but I sincerely believe I would be fired if I even attempted to play RPGs with my students. Very conservative community I work in.

Couldn't you disguise it as an "adventure" game? No mention of dragons, or dungeons, just hero's and their adventures.

Its also sad to hear. Still, Role Playing games are primarily about having a very imaginative conversation, where a series of hypothetical situations are resolved.. there is absolutely nothing about that which has no place in a classroom, in fact, I would say that it is nearly impossible to teach a subject without such hypothetical problem solving techniques.

and what does crafting teaches ? i'd say if crafts are allowed in the class, they'd be glad to build the game themselves and then be playing it as a reward for creating such a game.
i remember my teacher saying things like... be good with me all week and i will give you a good friday afternoon ! and while it was hard work all week, the actual friday after noon was us playing games. and that was in 4th grade.
