Greetings all! Just joined after watching a slew of vids from Scotty and and DMG and getting amped up to try my hand at this "crafting" thing
Just a quick word on myself and my background...
I'm new not only to crafting but to the world of the tabletop RPG itself. I have always wanted to try it since my youth - I'm pushing 40 now - but was never able to find others that were part of the scene. Met a couple of guys at a party recently and they invited me to my first adventure a few week ago... needless to say I was hooked.
One thing that I noticed was that these guys were using painted characters to mark their positions (as well as that of the enemy/NPCs of course) on top of a cutting board with the walls being delineated by dice placed in the imaginary "corners" - and yet more dice representing objects, doorways, etc. It worked... but it was rather confusing and didn't do much for the "theater of the mind" thing. I knew that there were groups that played with terrain (later found out they were called "tiles") to accentuate game play and help enhance the look and feel, but had NO IDEA that there was a community of people that were into creating their own... and that they were making such fantastic pieces that looks better than the store-bought stuff!
So, being the new guy that literally brought nothing to the table, I decided to try my hand at the 2.5D system! I'm trying to craft a basic wall/floor/door sort of set and get that done before the next get-together - sort of just to show them what I plan on crafting for future events. If they like what I'm doing I have a feeling that I'm going to get REALLY in-depth. All this is a sort of surprise gift - my contribution to the experience, since the DM has invested considerable time and money into the adventures themselves and the others brought figures and experience to the table. It's difficult with life getting in the way, but I'm slowly making progress. Walls pretty much done and trying to figure out how to glue wide expanses of single-layer cardboard into double layer without it warping, but I'm really digging it!
But enough yammering... just wanted to say a quick "hi" before I dive into the forums and the craft itself. I'm very much looking forward to this new RPG experience and contributing to it!
Thanks, Scotty, for a fantastic series of vids, this forum, and thanks to the community for being a great bunch of folks! See ya soon...
