I have been trying to figure out a way to craft an idea for the spell Bigsby's Icy Grasp. I can't seem to figure out a way to make a grasping hand that will hold a character piece. Would your creative mind have any idea how to do this? The only thing i could think of was maybe creating something out of a paper towel cardboard but i'm in no way artistic. I can't seem to figure out how to make the hand or to make it grasp and hold on to the piece during the duration of the spell. Any idea's and video's that you could come up with would be greatly appreciated.

how about, instead of "holding" the mini, you make something that is hollow and large enough to place on top of it? Or, take a small sized latex glove and fill it with something like household caulking in the shape you want and let it set. I would do it in stages so that you get the shape you want and it will set evenly. If its too big I suppose you could trim the fingers and palm, but I'm just throwing out ideas. My next thought would be to sculpt one from extruded polystyrene. I know you said your not too artistic, but you never know what you can do till you try.

How about five fingers painted blue/white to look like ice, put them on small round bases, and place them around the victim. Like fingers and a thumb coming out of the floor.

i like the idea of a hand with hollow middle in which you can simply put down the figure. much like they did with their gelatinous cubes. thatw ay the hand do not take up too much space on the board.

Try making it out of wrapped up pipe cleaners, that way you can crunch it around the PC

I like the pipe cleaner idea, and you can mix corn starch and silicone caulk to make a silicone modeling clay sort of thing. That might be pliable enough to grasp the mini. If you try it, add the pigment to the caulk as you mix it. If you paint it on it will just wear off. If you don't try it, I'd like to see someone give it a shot!

This may be a job for hot glue. Something like this.

Pfft I wish. I'm going to try it though after work today. See if my hot glue skills can handle it. Going to try and make the palm bigger to hold a mini sort of.

Now that piece would be nice to use. Maybe something g like that with a small platform to set the piece on to give the illusion it's around the characters body. I like the idea of it coming out if the ground as well. That's how the spell reads too. Going to look around the toy doll section and see what kind of hand would be close to what I'm looking for. Buy the doll maybe and just amputate the hand lol. Color it up some and see how that would look. Would really like to fine a skeleton hand to use and go that route. That would be best.

OK I'll have pics of the first one here tonight or tomorrow morning. This one will be able to hold an average 28mm figure. The other one I'll be attempting will be more "flat" with just the fingers hanging out and the palm will be part of the base.

Unfortunately I don't do videos so hopefully these progressing pics will help you out. Pic 1: first start mounding up your hot glue to build up the wrist and arm. Use your breath to get some unique textures. Pic 2: I had built it up to the palm base and started sizing up how much space was needed for the mini to be held. I also started to mound up the first joints on the fingers. Pic 3: keep adding to the mounds on the fingers. And done.

Might be a good idea to use paperclips or just wire to make a skeleton frame for it, at least to make it better capable of standing up to long term play

He should be fine without a frame. The hot glue is pretty tough. I mean my cave walls take a lot of "abuse" and they are in near perfect shape.

A little update. A lot of watered down blue. I wanted it to be a little transparent.
