Tauster, have you seen the Forgotten Realms accessory Dwarves Deep?

Found a new noodle to play with pasta type for crafting: Giant Fussili! They are about double the size of regular Fussili - large enough to use them as dwarven construction elements. I think they would look good as innards in a ripped-apart machine, or as part of the tip of a giant tunnel drill. Or as part of some water-powered device. Or, or, or...

Calm down, tauster, and breath.
A little TP and pva and you might have some weird under dark fungal growths. *shrug*

Left: I basepainted the noodle black, then realized that I should apply a strenghtening layer of whiteglue. I glued short bits of plastic insulation from electric cables on either side for the shaft. The whole thing wil be a screw flight (dunno whether this is the correct term) Right: I structured a pink foam piece with the texture rolling pin and cut a hole in the middle where the pasta screw flight will show through.

Can't wait to see this finished... but most rock grinder thingies have two of the screws.... At least in the video games they do.

Can't wait to see this finished... but most rock grinder thingies have two of the screws.... At least in the video games they do. Very good point, and I really feel kind of embarrassed for not thinking about that... Now I simply have to make a rock grinder. A working one. With a large lever. And enough surface for multiple minis to stand on. We all know what will happen.... *rubs hands* Here is the WIP; not much to show for, just basepainted the foam black and gave the screw a 2nd coat (metallic black). Oh, and some new loot from the construction site. What can I say - lectricians have so much cool garbage! What I like most is the piece of plastic rail shown beside Lady Forscale: It looks already cool as is, but it see what happens when you press it into something soft liek styrofoam or clay: Instant dwarven runes! How cool is that?!¿?1!

Tauster, you are the second person I've heard of to work with fusilli. At least you didn't make Fusilli Jerry. Also, for your rock grinder, perhaps only one grinder can be seen? Or was stolen (kobolds steal everything). Or perhaps the other one is broken.

Or was stolen (kobolds steal everything). Or perhaps the other one is broken. Well, I think at least I'm the first person to saw pasta. More pasta stuff here. Thanks for the rock grinder idea! This piece is only an experiment; when I think I got everything right, I'll do the real grinder. [update] Before this becomes one of the numerous craft project orphans on my desk, I made some progress: I blackbombed the whole thing, painted silver color on the fussili and the inside of the grinder's opening, completed with an orange rust effect, then glued it in and rubbleflocked the base.

...finished! Lady Forscale and a yet unfinished earth elemental have a stare-down on the derelict grinder: For the new grinder (you know, the one with a pasta pair) I still need a cool design. Modular would be great, so I'll probably go with a more regular shape. A dice-shaped machine (with the opening on top) can be easily expanded by simply putting more regular machine parts next to it...

New stuff for the Dwarven mine: model railroad pillarsI'm tempted to integrate them into scatter terrain pieces, but I'd rather just glue them onto individual bases, then I can use them individually and have more flexibility... spindles from sewing threadthese will make great rock grinders (again...) or other turning machine parts triangular cuts from electricla wire insulation(in the bottlecap, hidden behind the pillars) Glued to the spindle, they would make great 'teeth'. That practically begs for pushing enemies in!

I installed some dozens of these patress boxes (or 'cavity wall sockets'? *) in the house, and hijacked one for crafting purposes. * Dunno if that's the right english word; in German it's called "Hohlwand-Dose". It gets installed in the wall behind power sockets and light switches. They just look too cool not to use as terrain! I think this will either become a techno-magical apparatus of Aboleth origin, or with a somewhat more rugged design as part of a dwarven forge. Probably the latter...

I had to pry one box out of the wall again (actually two already), but that destroys them totally. ...well, not totally enough to be thrown away: they still make great exploded somethings! There is some text imprinted in the plastic, so I covered the whole thing lightly with spackle after the black basepaint dried. This makes it look like something had been flowing over the structure. I think I'll paint the spackle with a rusted metal scheme - this will evoke the picture of this object having suffered a fatal explosion, spewing molten metel in all directions. There will be bone heaps (yet to be made) and other remnants of an ancient battle all around the place (including a metallized and rusted elder brain - this will give my players teh goosebumps!), and the party will get ambushed amongst it all. I'm aiming at a battlemap crowded with interesting structures and multiple levels of height, lots of cover and unstable architecture that the participants of the battle can use strategically. Plus a few machines/devices that are still working or can be reactivated. Here's the intact box with a color-cycling LED placed inside. I widened the seams to let more light through. I've no idea what this will be in the context of a Dwarven forge, but it has to be something magical. The first things that come to mind are smelters (although I already did some stuff with molten metal) or some kind of a magical ore purifyer (that destroys/annihilates everything but the pure ore - the players should get the idea that their enemies are not pure ore...). Any other ideas?

if anybody ever played in 3.5 with brains in a jar... making that be on a counter in a laboratory may make your players much scared !

I cut little plastic triangles out of the electrical wire insulation... ...and glued them on cardboard rolls that I distressed a bit beforehand. This will become another type of rock grinder,... ...one that looks even more painful to fall on: Also, I got me some cat toys that will work as transport vessels. Probably suspended on heavy - and rusted near to the breakting point - metal chains, letting the players get from A to B ...with a bit of risk, to kep things, well... suspended. Then I blackbased it all. Next steps will be the usual stuff: second priming with metallic black, then a heavy drybrush with silver and some orange for the rust effect. I still haven't an idea what to suspend those cages from; I suspect this will be a rather large construction that I don't really want to built...

Use a lighter to burn the fuzz off of pipe cleaners. You will be left with a braid of wire you can use as chains.

I know, Curufin. When Tauster presented the cat toy idea I thought there is a whole section of the Dollar Tree that I had been overlooking. Doh!

I was looking for something similar to the hair rollers that everybody seemed to be using for cages, and cat toys were practically jumping out at me...
