Some kind of metal smelter: Moulding a warhammer psionic template (whatever this is used for... I'm not into wargaming but I love the shape of this thing) Some plaster bricks glued to a round MDF plate, with the ring glued on top:

Brick drill cores (from the construction site next door) - this stuff looks great! primed in metallic black (similar to gunmetal) rusted This one will be next: Although I love the look of it, I have no clue what this is going to represent in the dwarven mine. Any ideas?

I just finished a little happy dance after priming the ring with silver: It instantly brought out so many details! washed black, plus red drybrushing on the molten surface rusted: 10 crafties? Or 15?

I intend to scavenge each and every dwarf-related product I can find for inspiration: Mithril Hall, Gauntlygrym, Moria, etc... I'll be happy if you can point me towards cool plans, pictures and books (ebook and dead-tree books alike) of all things Moria. The goal is a combination of all the coolest stuff that can be found in such a setting - so let's start hoarding dwarfen goodness!I am not into anything this ambitious, but just found this site and thought you may be interested. www.lotrscenerybuilder.org/downloads.php

Moradin's beard, that is so cool... Sam, thanks a ton for this link - this is absolutely awesome! It will be major project, especially since it's made in wood and not cardboard, so I don't know when I'll tackle it, but this is definitely going to be part of the dwarven mine adventure! I also love this bridge here: This entrance will be a bit too much work, but it looks lovely: *sight* This is almost too much dwarven goodness: WestgateThe Chamber of Mazarbul

More mechanic equipment molded and painted... I have no idea where and how to use it at the moment, but I'm sure you can't ever have enough stuff like that in a dwarven mine. ...aaaaand even more! I made the gear's molds in november (plus here and here), but after casting the largest one white clay and the smallest once in hotglue, I lost interest. Now I'm happy I have them. Blackwashed and rusted The second batch I molded with hotglue today. This stuff needs a lot of material: What you see here are about three long gluesticks. Based in silver Now that I have quite a collection of stuff, I need to come up with ideas how to use them... I have a few, but not nearly enough. As always.

Something I wanted to post a few weeks but always forgot: Some ballpoint pens have a certain kind of clip that, if carefully pried out, looks like an awesome giant cannon. The problem is that this plastic doesn't hold acrylic colors well (if at all - mind dripped all off), so I dipped the whole thing in watered-down PVA glue and try to get it primed that way. No idea if this works or the glue drips off as well - will find out in the morning. Btw: I'm a little proud of that holding mechanism. Screwcap + neodym magnet + old xcacto blade + piece of wire

Blackwashing the laserphaserbobaser (got a better name? fire away!)Construction foam makes great spilled-out-then-solidified-again-and-rusting-ever-since iron Blackwashed and rusted one piece. I like the look, especially the little pits! I want the dwarven forge to be the site of an epic battle, long ago. Of course it will see battle again (the moment just before exploring and trying to find loot will become a bit boring). Which will take a while - I expect goosebumps and lots of speculation when they find an illithid elder brain turned into iron and slowly rusting away amidst the rubble! The rusted iron effect doesn't really work on flagstones. I expected that but tried anyway.

This is such a cool idea I just might have to use it in the future, with your permission of coarse.

Alexis, I just ordered two more pots of this orange color (found them at a reduced price on ebay). Can't bear the thought of running out of this stuff.
More rusted iron blobs (plus a rust-like monster hiding among them... a shapechanger perhaps?) If you look closely, there's a neodym glued into the long, snaky one. You know, the one that almost looks like a tentacle. *whistles innocently* And I started to work on the larger hotglue ring to make another magic melting device. There will be several destroyed smelters, but two will still be powered. This opens up interesing possibilities during the battle (liquid metal, hmmm, what would that be good for in a fight? *ggg*) I'm toying with the idea of having the two powered by bonded elementals - this would give me an excuse for having elementals joining the fray: - rampaging through the battle and attacking all sides, raging because they were bound for centuries, or - being called to aid by a (dwarven) character, or - being called to aid by the enemies

Helter smelter! ... Sorry. I just can't resist bad puns. The large smelter is done, as you will have already guessed! This time I have textured the 'molten metal' surface not with hotglue like I did with the smaller version, but by rolling a piece of bark over the foamcore. Then I based it yellow and gave it a heavy drybrushing in read: After that, two layers of gunmetal (I got a large bottle of cheap but good metallic black color that looks similar to the miniature paint gunmetal - otherwise I probably wouldn't use it on large areas like that...). In some places, the red and yellow shimmers through the metallic color, which wasn't intended but looks really cool. Erm...I mean hot. The stones got based in flat black. All metal parts based in silver. My pot of GW chainmail is almost empty, but I found it online for cheap (a little more than 1 € per pot, which is half or less of the regular price). This color is much better than cheap acrylic silver paint with, it has a lot more (or finer?) pigments in and coverage is a lot better than with the cheap stuff. I mention it because there was a discussion about miniature colors recently somewhere around here... Two washings of diluted black, plus orange drybrushing - finished. I also did two more brick drillcores, but I still don't know what they might be in a dwarven mine... Any ideas are welcome!

I always liked the complex look of the upper end of those plastic coffee cream cups, so I'll use some of them for the dwarven metal smelting facility. The lower part is stone, the upper part rusted metal: Even after three thick layers of color (what a waste of color, even if it was a cheap 0.75 litre bottle of silver color!) I couldn't get rid of the "PRESS" sign, so I covered in finally with hotglue. This will be long-since solidified and painted similarly as rusted metal.

The large smelter is beautiful. The molten material showing through the cooled crust, the rusted ring around the top, the walkway... So much to look at. You know the players will not go near that thing, unless you give them a HUGE incentive. That's got to be a boss fight location.
