I have been following DMScotty for about a year now, and love the 2.5D system (not to mention gridless!). However, I found that I got frustrated putting so much effort into each dungeon and location, then only using them once. I decided to make a modular set. So far, I've made a bunch of dungeon pieces and will soon start a outdoor set, then onto a cavern set. Here are some pictures of progress so far. I'd love some feedback, critiques, and more ideas. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have. Happy crafting!!!

Here are a few random objects I've been working on as well. I much preferred DMScotty's bed, and will soon redo mine using his techniques.

Amazing! What material are you using for the floors/walls? Foam? I love how it looks cut out, individual!

I'm working on 2 set pieces atm, but I plan on creating a set of modular tiles before the new year! I'm kinda cheating though. I'm using printed out dungeon floors (and yes they're gridded), which I'm gonna attach to a base, then attach walls. I really love the look of your walls...

I'm using foam board for the floor and gluing Styrofoam strips for the walls. I then use a hot knife (the end of a hot glue gun would work) to etch the floor and walls before painting. I've ran into a small problem with this, though. They end up being so light, it's too easy to bump them and mess them up while playing. I'm considering gluing washers to the bottems to help this, but if anyone has any ideas as to remedy this issue, I'd be happy to hear it.

Also, I've added some grids (1 inch) to large floor pieces, and etch the walls at 1 inch. I use gridless play, but this helps the players better estimate distance when making their moves.

These are great! I love the look of the stone texture on the floors. The props are awesome as well!

They look great! Weight or lack there of is the only problem with going with foam or cardboard. Washers would add weight, but they can get pretty expensive!

Could glue those thin foam sheets you get at the craft store. That should stop the slippage.

Skunkape, what do you use when things end up to light, but don't want to invest in washers? I've heard that drawer liners work well. Have you used them?

They look great. I've been toying with the idea of using very thin foam to make tiles, but cardboard is just so cheap, and just so compact. Those good looking tiles are a good argument in the pro column for the foam tiles.

Though it isn't as cheap as cardboard, I am able to get sheets of foam board from my local dollar tree for a buck each. I cut the tiles out, peel off the paper, and voila! I now have thin foam that is easy to etch and texture. I've noticed some slight curling after painting, but I got that with cardboard too. Also, I think I've come up with a good way to keep them from sliding around without investing in hundreds of washers. A couple drawer liners give me plenty of space to lay my dungeon out, and it keeps the tiles in place. Another couple bucks at the dollar store, and I'm ready to go.

Here is an update on my modular dungeon. I don't have all the pieces made that I want, but enough that I can make a pretty fun dungeon.
I have a long ways to go as far as dressing the dungeon. I have many a prop to finish, and a lot of bases that I haven't finished (as you can see), but I decided to put in a bunch of minis for scale.
