Yesterday I came across a material I had not seen before. Forgive me if this has be discussed before... It is a called ShapeLock. It is a type of moldable plastic. It comes in pellet form and it become the consistency of bubble gum when heated up. It starts out as a hard opaque white plastic. You heat it up in boiling water. As it heats up it turns clear. When it is all clear, you can mold it. Mold it. When it cools, it turns back into a hard opaque plastic. It also seems to hold in detail. I could see my fingerprints after it hardened. The company says you can keep re-heating and molding the same piece indefinitely. It seems like there could be tons of uses for it in the craft. And for some reason I immediately thought of tauster when I saw it.

I saw someone post about a similar product that they used to make two part molds for figures. Then they used clay (I think) to make the figure by pressing it into the mold.
It was a complicated process.
I have also gotten ahold of something similar. It came with a set of false teeth I used for a costume, which was necessary to form a brace around your real teeth so the set wasn't rattling around in your mouth. It was anchored to the false teeth via holes in the false gumline just behind the teeth.
I thought of how useful it could be for other stuff, but I had so little of it I never thought too much more about it.

The stuff I used was called 'oyumaru'. it seems to work like shapelock; I suppose there are a couple of different materials that do the same thing.

I have some. I fiddled around with it a bit when I bought it. I figured I'd use it for molds and then re-melt it again. It's all dusty in the back of my crafting bookshelf now. I dunno why, it works fine, I just never seem to use it.

Mostly because I used the wrong casting material, so the results were too crumbly - after that I lost my motivation. But I guess I'll give it another try soon-ish.

I've heard of it used to make molds for recasting parts that you need. Seems like a neat idea especially for people building custom models/units for a wargame and want them all with a certain weapon you only have one of
