My old paint rack is full, so I need an additional one... Instead Some people collect model trucks (in germany they're mostly giveaways of beer brands), and there's a specialized kind of wall-mounted rack / (glass) cabinet for these trucks. Normally these racks are quite expensive, but if you're patient, you'll find them on the cheap, sooner or later. Just got this one for 1€ (plus 7 € shipping... *sigh*) on ebay.

My wife and I and the kids have a study/office. It has all our books and so forth. In the corners my wife and I both have large corner desk units that we got from an unfinished wood furniture place. They are huge. But the doors can be shut. That is were all my supplies go, the paints and everything. I put things in shoe boxes. All of which are in the process of being painted to be buildings for dual purposeness. We have a dinning room table in their for "work" it does everything from kids homework, to bills and of course crafting. I have too much completed stuff right now. That I need to find a place for. I have two 3 by 3 cubes of dungeons stacked up in there but for the most part it looks like a classy library study area (when the kids have not pulled all their books out and dumped puzzles on the floor). It opens to the living room so it does need to be presentable (on the other side of the indoor play castle that the kids play in).
If I had a room that the door closed on. I would invest in high shelves as deep as I could around the edge of the room. Also two foot wide strips of fish net (decorative like you see at seafood restaurants) as long as the room will allow with a bit of swag to them. This is for pieces of foam or whatever that do not easily lean against the wall you can tuck them in overhead.

So almost 2 weeks after I got the new shelf for the paints, I finally got to clean up and reorganise my craft desk! I glued the thin plastic shelf to a stable MDF sheet ...and put it behind the right side frame of my craft desk: Btw: For the reinforcing metal cross you see behind the new shelf I had to drive to Ikea. It costs only 1 €, but ordering it online adds 6,90€ for shipping, so I whipped myself in the car while the rest of the family had their weekend-afternoon nap. ...I should have known better than going to Ikea at a saturday afternoon... Waiting at the cashpoint took almost as long as driving there, getting the cross and driving back combined. I also found a space-saving solution for storing different pasta types:. So far I have simply put the opened pasta bags in some storage box. Bur I never ever need a full (or even half) bag of one type, so I cut a divider from cardboard to shape, put it in a 1 litre yogurt cup and ...save myself a lot of space. Plus, I can eat the rest of the pasta. So here's my craft desk in all it's organized beauty: As you can see, I use every cubic cm of space for storage, but still have enough free room for crafting. Barely.

what i find funny is that all of us who crafts have all the very same layouts... i mean the very chaotic layouts !
what we call organised, for my mom she would call it a huge mess ! hahaha

Sigh, just as I moved all my stuff into my new (smaller) room and started thnking about how to arrange things, my wife broke her knee and I just haven't had the time or energy to do anything to the room, so it still is just a bunch or piles of stuff...
One day, soon I hope, I will get back to it. They are saying 6-8 weeks of therapy once the staples come out though....

tauster & @shinobi, her kneecap was broken into three pieces and she had to have surgery to put it back together. Right now she's not even allowed to bend it until we get the OK from her surgeon, which we hope we will next Tuesday. Once she is able to bend it there will be six to eight weeks, at least, of physical therapy to get back to normal. So it may be a while before I get back to active crafting. But she is learning how to get around on crutches, so maybe I'll be able to get back to it in the relatively near future.

adamantinedragon: wish her the best from all of us here on the forum! As you can see, I use every cubic cm of space for storage, but still have enough free room for crafting. Barely. ...oh I see... You sit on the floor and craft on the chair seat

I can sympathize with your wife; though my knee is not broken, just falling apart (getting old sucks) and I can barely stand to put any weight on it. I sincerely hope that her knee heals completely. The best advice I can give is when she starts doing physical therapy, to pay attention to what her therapist tells her and continue to do the exercises she is given for the rest of her life. This will make her knee stronger and less likely to be re-injured. I learned this the hard way and too late. My heart goes out to her in the meantime.

Whether you get them from thrift stores, garage sales or build your own, shadow boxes are a great way to organize minis or other bits. I just got a free one that I'm going to hang near my end of the table in the game room for holding torches, doors and other small, often used terrain decor. I also have a dresser in the game room, near the DM end of the table. I placed 2 boards across it to widen the top surface. On top of those is a flat screen monitor, keyboard, mouse, extra dice, game books and folders of notes... all within easy reach during games. (The main desktop computer is on the floor next to the dresser) The dresser drawers are full of plastic divided trays that hold my minis, tokens, terrain bits, pens/pencils and other junk. When players are seated, they can't see inside the top drawer when I open it to grab stuff, which is nice. I find I hardly sit when DMing, so the height of the dresser is perfect. Top dresser drawer:

I am finally making some progress. My wife is still hobbling around on her broken kneecap but has reached the point that she can pretty much get around on her crutches, so today I was able to spend the whole day cleaning up. No, still no great organizational ideas, but some progress anyway. Now I should be able to at least finish some projects and start thinking about ways to organize things.

ReliantLion, What you see is an original Macintosh, purchased in 1984, but upgraded twice to become a 512K "Fat Mac" and then to the full meg of memory of the MacPlus. It would probably be worth more today if I had never upgraded it. That's the machine that launched my Corporate career, first as a programmer, then as an IT Manager. So it holds an honored place in my room. I've got several issues still to work out in this room. First, I need to deal with all the books you can barely see under the table on the right. I am going to IKEA tomorrow (or maybe just Walmart) to pick up a couple cheap particle board bookshelves to hold all those books. It's not nearly as simple to clean off the big table as it might seem. I've still got most of my gaming stuff and crafting stuff piled in sacks and boxes. It's a ginormous mess. I don't even know yet how I'm going to get it all straightened up. When it was in the basement it was just scattered around in boxes, but I am tired of spending hours searching for things that "I just know I have somewhere." From now on if I want something, it's going to be no more than a couple steps and in plain view. Paints, brushes, glues, clay, plaster, molds, tools, materials... all of it. I've seen some great ideas for organizing here on this forum, but I'm going to have to think about customizing anything I do to my needs anyway... And there are still boxes I'm finding with all sorts of miscellaneous stuff in them, and every time I find a box like that, I have to work out how to organize entire new categories of stuff. Where do I put my ancient early model iPod? My binoculars? My CDs?... ug.

curufin That is an amazing cart. Really great. I've got some plywood and 2x4s lying around. I might try to build something myself.

Well, I have been working hard on getting my teeny-tiny, overcrowded and maddeningly messy craft area tidied up since I blew out my knee. Hey, it's not like I can go anywhere for a while . So, though it's been slow goin', I use my desk chair to scoot this way and that as much as possible and hobble around with my leg brace when there's stuff I can't reach otherwise (at least I'm off the crutches now, thankfully). I have rearrange my book/storage shelf three times already, as well as each of my drawer units. Tomorrow I plan on getting the surface of my craft table cleared off and move the location of my printer to free up room for my poly clay oven. It doesn't sound like it, but that's gonna be a lot of work! Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it! I'll post pics when all is said and done. Wish I knew how to post a vid from my phone. Anybody have any helpful hints on that?

Wish I knew how to post a vid from my phone. Anybody have any helpful hints on that? YouTube would probably be easiest... or I think some of the free image hosting site apps allow videos as well...? Not sure - photobucket doesn't seem to. Good luck with the knee!
