I saw a picture in a garden catalog of an arched bridge on sale for $1.200! Yipes!
Well, I didn't need one that big, so I built my own out of Skinny Sticks, match sticks, paper wrapped floral wire, beads, Q-Tips, and wood glue.
First, cut 22 skinny sticks to 2 1/4" and 3 more to 1 3/4". Then cut eight match sticks 2" and 16 to 1 7/8".
Then, matching the lengths, glue the match sticks in groups of four to form posts - 4 long and 2 short. Set aside.
holding 2 12" lengths of wrapped floral wire together, bend into a gentle arch, using pliers, bend the last inch on either end at a 90° angleline them up and stick them into a large piece of Styrofoam to hold them still and in place, parallel to each other and spaced 1 1/2" apart. Start gluing the skinny sticks to the two wire supports in this pattern: 3 long, 1 short, 7 long, 1 short, 7 long, 1 short, 3 long. Keep the short ones centered so you have a 1/4" indent on either side. Adjust the arch while glue is drying. once the arch is dry, cut of excess wire. Using off cuts from the match sticks, glue small pieces to each end of short skinny sticks on the underside of the bridge to create a larger gluing surface for the posts. Once those are dry, glue posts in place gluing the 4 shorter ones on each end at the short sticks and the 2 longer ones at the center short stick.
Adjust the posts for the height you desire.
Once all that is dry, it's time for the fun part! cut the bud ends off the Q-Tips and paint as desired. I painted mine to look like they had been snuffed out. break out your beads and paint (or not) as you like. Glue the torches into the beads and then glue those onto each post. Smear wood glue on two 12" lengths of pearl cotton or kitchen string and attach to posts leaving a drape in-between each post. glue ends of 'rope' under the bridge, trim away excess. Paint or stain as desired, and voila! You have an arched bridge!
