Does anyone have a tutorial or at least instructions on the methods of creating 3d buildings for 2.5d terrain? I would greatly appreciate the help.

I saw those. I was just wondering if there was a more step by step kinda way. I'm still new and wanted to try it. Just not sure how to start.

Check out RubbishInRubbishOut channel on YouTube Here is a playlist for his Tudor buildings but if you search his uploads he has a lot of great terrain building in general. Its probably my favorite war gaming channel on the web. This might not be the best one on his channel but it was the first one that came to mind. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ3wfiPbNx4TpIJOfsaCkAhNOcAiDQanJ

I keep intending to make a vid detailing the buildings but keep getting distracted with other vids. I will get to it sometime.

I am also working on a 2.5D NEXT building system that can simulate 3D buildings without the bulk.

This has come up on the forum a few times. The easiest thing I have found is to use already existing Boxes. Like shoe boxes. Flip them upside down. Put the tile inside the lid (now facing up cause its upside down and the underside of the lid is the floor. When the party "opens the door" lift the box away revealing the interior.

I forgot to mention. If you don't glue the tile down to the inside of the lid you can reuse buildings with variant floorplans.

Seems like with the interior of the box, it might actually be a workable idea to grid out the interior for future interior planning so that you can work out mix & match pieces to fit inside. Possibly also paint/floor the entire thing a well to cover hallways when in use.

Hi,
I mentioned this on a previous thread; I made walls windows and doors using images from the web and adobe software. i printed out a bunch (on card stock) so as i needed, i could just throw together the pieces how i needed for the time. this is in no way as cool looking as DMScotty's 3D stuff or as cool as some of the stuff i've seen on this forum. When your running out of time tho it helps tremendously to be able to throw together a bunch of buildings in a couple of hours. If your interested, let me know what you want the walls made out of and i'll post it. So far i have; a log texture, brick, and stone. you just cut out and fold into rectangles, then glue the different rectangles together to make your building. then you slap on doors and windows form another printout / cutout. if you check out the thread "2D paper craft doors?' you can see the little halfling massacre scene i did right before the last session. the windows and some doors are also posted there as well. Just finished and posted some sewer doors today too.

Thanks darthantb! Im creating village/town modular tiles. So, im really open to suggestions on the type of walls. Obviously stone for bigger towns or cities amd maybe clay for smaller places. Im new to this whole crafting thing amd just enthralled by it.

Im new to this whole crafting thing amd just enthralled by it. No worries, I'm a noob too! i use the graphic design as a crutch till i can get as good as the guys and gals on this forum. I didn't think to do clay. good idea. I'll get some shapes for you on this thread when i get home in a bit. i'll put a page of wood floor boards too so you can cut paper to match the shape of your buildings. Like i said its in no way comparable to making an actual DMScotty style tile / 3d building cover, but in a pinch, its cool.

the problem for me, is that this is too bulky. i preffer to have flat flooring. i've created basic tiles with nothing but squares in it for spacing. then i simply lay them down. put the walls i have and make the house. kinda like scotty 2.5D next tiles... basically i got the floor and walls separated and i just add what i need. if the house is bigger i just add more tiles that way. makes houses in a few minutes at max.

Also, is there a certain height you follow for the walls?

Well like DMG, i hate to have to dig into it to move around. so i keep em the lowest i can. right now my walls are pretty much only 2 layer of double layer cardboard. looking at it i may get it up to 3 just in case i want more or less cover for my charcaters. but i never really go beyond the human minis heights.
depends on what you need really. i have some that are lower, and some that are higher. but i tend to love the higher ones.
my first few buildings had walls integrated and that wall was nothing more then a kabab stick glued to the cardboard. it does the job quite well because it delimits the place as needed. and it allows the charcaters to fit the squares more.

Also, is there a certain height you follow for the walls? Hey, sorry that took so long. Im rushing to get my crafts done before saturday's game. I made these red clay walls. theres different measurements you just cut fold glue and lego them together, then slap on those windows and doors. i also made one thats just a page of clay so you can cut whatever measurements you want. Theres also a page of wood planks, you can just cut out pairs, fold down the line and use on the corners of buildings. Or you can cut out 5 fold and glue and you have a wooden post. If you come across an instance where you need a specific set let me know. these are in increments of inches, but labeled by its scaled dimension. Cheers!

I made walls windows and doors using images from the web and adobe software. It would appear that we have come full circle as a species! I found this way funnier than I have any right to.
