I know it's not crafting per say, but I've never refinished furniture before, only painted it... and danggit I'm proud, lol Found a dining room table on craigslist for $10. It needed some work, as the old polyurethane top was flaking off, and there were some nasty stains. The other $18 was for wood stain, a brush, wood conditioner, etc.. i used a handheld palm sander and completely stripped the top and edges (about 2 hours of work) then refinished it with an all-in-one stain & polyurethane. The color is "Bombay Mahogany", and I may go back and add another coat. I purposefully added darker bits, as I think it makes it look richer than one uniform color over the whole thing. Adding wood conditioner: Whole thing conditioned, adding stain: and done: cheers!

Now... what to do with this little $20 thrift store gem I nabbed today...? Suggestions? Here's what we came up with, as it'll probably go in the game room as well: - paint it black, with dark red interior (it has a fine wire mesh in the top door window) - paint it like stone and add small resin gargoyles here and there ...in either case, I'm thinking about putting some crafted reliefs of swords or something on the sides and centered on the bottom door, and possibly wiring led lights inside. - make it steampunk Would love ideas

I think you have the ideas already!
Maybe a wizard's tower motif?

Maybe remove the top door from the cabinet altogether, and remove that decoration off the top...replace with a COOL dragon, then of course all the swords and stuff you were sayin' , probably wouldn't suggest a black paint job, maybe bright white, then use a stone texture style spray paint over the white, then add your detailing with black...then gargoyles definitely LEDs on the inside, cool piece of furniture bro, great find

Yes! take that top finial off, paint it like stone, the dragon is a must! Really love the led light idea. When you're done with that, I have a curio that needs a facelift...

Store figures in the tower! Sadly, I could probably squeeze all of mine on one shelf, lol You are obviously suffering from the heartache of Mini Deprivation. One of the my Amigos over on the Reaper Forum just dropped $1,800 on a display case for his miniatures. Now you should obviously take part of the $1,780 your clever purchase saved you AND fill that sucker up...provided this doesn't land you in The Dog House.
